People run into emergency vehicles with their lights on, a couple of plastic, reflective triangles won't get their attention.

I just wish we were classified as service trucks like tow trucks and hero units, which in many states have larger criminal sentences if someone is injured or killed.

Read the article and just shook my head. Pretty sad that a truck drivers life is literally worthless. What is there to investigate? It's motor vehicle homicide clean and clear. Why drag an investigation out set trial no bail guilty conviction no plea offered lock him up and throw away the key

They've probably subpoened his phone records, the ECM out of the car, etc.

I'm pretty sure they will. Especially in this case, but you know how slowly those wheels turn unless you're paying them money.

I've always been curious what those phone records show. Sure if you send a text or make a call that's shown, but what if you're surfing the web, playing a game or streaming radio?

That's data consumption but aside from the fact that your device is pulling data from the network, do they actually keep track of what you pull?

I love to stream Canadian radio over my phone, but I have to wonder if that could be seen as browsing the web. Sure would hate to get into a wreck and that bites me in the arse.

That is true although and I can see why they're doing that. But I would believe all that should he needed is the security camera footage. Never seen brake lights and all that is really needed to tell the guy was distracted was the fact that he hit something that's 8.5ft wide and 13ft tall. It's not like he missed his exit on the interstate he slammed into a tractor trailer.

The security footage bothers me a little - it was shaky and looked like the zoom was in and out - also, they kept the whole thing is frame perfectly... like someone was watching, knowing something was going to happen.

The ECM will tell them the throttle position, brake position, speed, everything that will be needed in the prosecution of the driver. It will back up what the security cam and phone records show.

The legs sliding down in the windshield bothered me. And the arm, and his coworker
