Do enclosed car carriers get higher paying cars vs open car carrier? Is it better to buy tractor or f-450 dually? What is the life span on a f450 ?

When I ran my vintage car transport biz from '89 until '91 i got .90 cpm enclosed and .60 cpm open per car. I had a three car unit.
You can buy some pretty cheap car carriers now since the biz is in the toilet and many guys went broke (hint!)...
An F450 should go 500,000 miles if maintained properly. I sold my E350 with 385K on the clock and it was in good shape... -
Double edge sword. Enclosed pays more but not as many cars have to go enclosed thus you end up hauling cars that are paying open hauler rates in your enclosed trailer.

You'll find yourself pulling around the same cars as if you were pulling open. The money just isn't there for enclosed.
The difference in pay versus the volume of enclosed runs available make it not worth it.
My opinion...
the cost of a good enclosed trailer to pull enclosed, well lets just say... makes it difficult to make $ and see home within the same week.hauling enclosed cars off central your going to be getting the same rates
If you don't have your own customers you will not make it with a 3 car, period! Most of the rates for enclosed are not much better than open on CD. The 3 car trailers are not designed for commercial use, they won't hold up. You need a 4 car minimum, Enclosed car hauling has a lot more head aches, not something you want to start if you haven't hauled any car before.
