Is this why truck lots are the way they are?

I am looking into getting one. Anyone have one that should be on my list to get?

Check Amazon for the ones with the most & hightest rated reviews. I'm sure the devices meant for homes are more reliable & less expensive than any that may run on 12 volts.

    Siinman Thanks this.

My understanding is that under light load such as stationary idling, diesel engines run very lean and produce very little carbon monoxide. It's not nothing but it's something like 1/10th of what a gasoline engine produces idling. Sleeping in a gasoline powered vehicle with the HVAC system running would make me far more nervous. If this were a huge threat to the general public, you'd see OTR truck drivers dropping dead all the time. But that isn't the case. Diesel fumes will stink you out but that's a good thing...it's warning you there's a leak that needs fixed.

They may not make as much, they do make enough to kill you.

Under heavy load they can, which in an automotive application means the vehicle is moving and the high airflow into the HVAC won’t have any exhaust fumes in it. It’s really a stationary idling concern where an exhaust leak could find its way into the cab through the air vents.

The real danger is from people running generators that aren't properly exhausted.
