Greetings. I have been a public relations professional since 1995. I had the opportunity to work all over the country. Unfortunately, back in October I lost my job and have been trying to find a PR job ever since. I have had a couple interviews, but I have finally decided to hit the road. I have looked at different driving schools, company driving schools, etc. I have finally decided to go with Central Refrigerated Services in Salt Lake and will be attending their driving school, beginning on Dec. 19. I'm looking forward to the challenge -- I have always wanted to be a truck driver, but realize there are a number of challenges. I appreciate this website and all the outstanding advice that has been previously posted. I look forward to being a regular on the message board and hope to meet up with some of you along the way.

Welcome to the forum and trucking hope you enjoy both. Public relations will help you in trucking as you will find out. I drive for Central and as a starter company they are not bad. Feel free to pm me anytime and will try to help if I can. I planed on being a regular on the board too and was until I got my truck and started doing solo. I still am just not as frequent as I was. This is a great forum and some good stuff on it hope you will enjoy your new adventure.

Big Rigg,
Good to hear from you. Hope to catch up with you. Things I'm interested in ... (I've asked my recruiter, but they all say the same thing)
1. Hometime: I'm all about getting out on the road and making money. But, the question always comes up ... how often do you get home?
2. What kind of truck did you get when you went solo?
3. Are you making the money you thought you would?
4. How was the OTR Training? -

If you desire much hometime,
there are other companies that offer more...........
just saying..... -
That is true just wanted to tell him the truth about Central so he can make a more informed decision.
-
Average time out for "most" companies is 3 weeks.
If that works for you, great.....

Thanks for the information, Big Rigg (and others). I'm expecting to be out on the road 4-6 weeks at a time. I hope it helps that I live along I-15/I-80 in Utah. Maybe not. But, I know what I'm in for. It's not going to be easy.
I'm looking forward to it. -
I'm glad the school is fast paced. I pick things up fairly quickly and have an aptitude for this, so I'm glad we don't waste a lot of time in the classroom. I want to get out on the road. I think that's where all the learning will happen anyway.
It seems Central was running Pets, KW's and Internationals. Yet I see more and more Freightliners lately. Are they going more that way? Seems the ProStar and Cascadia do about the same as far a fuel mileage goes. I'm guessing that's the biggest reason???
I'll be good with whatever.
Any good recommendations for a trainer? Is there a way to request a trainer, or do you just pretty much get who you get? -
Welcome to the party!
