It's not a bad plan. Just be prepared to combine your earnings, and be mindful of the ramifications that doing so will bring. You will be thrust into very close quarters with him. Have you been living together up to this point? Is he OTR now? If so, how often is he home, and for how long? Can you two live together 24/7 in a 6x6 box? Remember, MOST of the time, while your awake, he's asleep.

    Just some things to consider.

On the other hand, if you get your CDL, and things don't work out between you (or you simply decide that you can't team), you will have your CDL in hand, and getting another job should be fairly easy. Assuming of course your driving record is good.

I say if driving is something that you want to do, you should get your CDL regardless of whether or not you end up teaming with your BF.

My fiancee took out a loan to do his class A and when looking for a company he looked for ones that provide tution reimbursement. So if you go with taking out a loan to get your cdl to maybe looking into companies that maybe provide that as a benefit.

LTL will take you and your BF. Old Dominion, Saia, Estes, YRC, and R&L carriers run teams. Honestly they pay teams very well. You need doubles, tanker, and Hazmat endorsement. Don't look at the website at required exp, just apply and call and talk to them. Teams are gold for any carrier.

Yes we live together and have been together 19 years. He has been running local for about 3 years now so he could see all 3 girls graduate highschool. so he is home every night. I understand completely what your saying about the 6x6 box sometimes its hard in a 980 square foot home. Lol He was on the road so long when the girls were little to allow me to take layoffs from work that it has been quite an adjustment. But now we don't have any kids at home and the college bills are piling up and with my factory closing its doors soon I'm willing to try anything. CDL is about my only choice if I want to come close to what I was making in a factory. I just dont know where to start. When he first started out he got roped into some horrible companys for his first couple of years and I dont want to make the same mistakes cause at my age I dont have a couple of years to waste like The 17 I threw away in the factory. I honestly dont know if OTR is what I want to do but I live in a 1 factory town and it is closeing in 6 months so there are not many options.

LOL. Well heck, I thought I was giving advice to a 20-something.

Well, I don't know if this helps, but remember, the BF can get a local/regional/LTL trucking job just about anywhere in the country. If the kids are off in college, whats keeping you in a 1 job town? You two might find greener pastures in another part of the country.
    Just a thought.

Lol I might as well be 20 something cause factory and raising kids is all I have ever done so this is like starting at the beginning. With most of the good paying factories around the country moving across the border I do not have many options left that will keep our heads above water.

tuition reimbursement is like buying a car
you either get more for your trade in or more off list price
companies pay tuition reimbursement just pay less until your paid off
and know they have captive audience along the way
DOT, Magnum and Abilene all pay better wages to new drivers
    Abilene does teams
