I agree. When I was in Oki back in '09, there were a bunch of Lance Criminals talking about getting out and all. I remember telling them that if they could, they might want to see about staying in or switching to Army or Navy or whatever cause the employment world back in the states was unrecognizable.
Career path advice?

Man I was in oki in 93 to 96 what a blast I was at mcas futenma
-
Yep, that place is FUN!
I was actually born there at Lester (used to be Camp Kuwae). I was at Courtney over near Gushikawa (during the week, on weekends I stayed at my girlfriends place in Naha).
If/when I retire, I'm going back there. I wouldn't mind retiring in Osaka. -
Hey man that's awesome I have a 15yo daughter who was born in ginowan her mom is Japanese. They just got back last week from oki and her moms home island ishigaki small world huh. My friend I still talk to is a Japanese guy who works on futenma still. I know camp Courtney I been there. I used to hang out at the sunabe Sea wall with Americans who all got out and stayed there.

If you had any idea how many times I've gotten fitshaced drunk at the little bar near the seawall.....
I wish I could have stayed there, lemme tell ya. Word is, Japan also creates a birth cert for Americans born there. My girlfriend went to the Chatan Town Hall with me because she swore that it would be there. Apparently her mom used to work at the town hall and saw all of the certs of Americans born on base there quite a few years ago. She said that if it could be located, I might be able to get permanent residency (not citizenship). Of course, the staff there denied any knowledge whatsoever of any records of American birth being there. Mine would be on microfiche by this time, but the lady shut the window when my girl asked her to search for it.
They are one seriously protective people and apparently do NOT like outsiders.
See, now you are getting me depressed. I'm really missing "home" (Okinawa). -
Does anyone know why the Army got the mules and the Navy got the Marines? The Army had first choice. Just kidding I loved the Marines anytime I worked with them, Navy 20 years retired Seabee.
Jarhed1964 Thanks this. -
Seabees were badaxx as I remember. I've watched you dudes build stuff in lightning speed and tear down even faster. Couldn't keep up with us in the bars though, but I'll forgive y'all for that.

About that birth certificate thing that may be true my daughter was born outside the gate but we got her 2 birth certificates and she has 2 passports. Im not sure but I think she has dual citizenship.

Wow, thank you all for the responses! I will dig more into the forum to learn a bit more. I was already medically discharged from the military for those suggesting staying in. As for the GI Bill money, Schneider National has an apprentice program that I'm looking into.
The purchasing of the truck is more of necessity for another business venture rather than pure income. It wouldn't be driven too terribly much. I just figured that by purchasing one through a lease program, i could an old one payed off and utilize any extra $$ to purchase my necessary inventory. Thanks again for all the advice and I'll keep digging!
