What state do you live? Don't mess with Welfare Express. Lots better out there...

Well I decided to stay with my trainer for a month because I felt I needed more training. So far the miles are ok and the DM never really bothers me, so it's not the worst. Big issue though is that they are putting interior cameras in their trucks. Mine just got one installed and I really am not a fan of it. Also I think they are a risky company to join because a lot of the trucking things are not explained to you at all (how to navigate, how to avoid truck restricted areas, etc). And if you learn the hardway, I just hope it isn't career ending for you, like it ends up being for some drivers at western.

I'm a bit confused. LTL jobs are typically local, with maybe a layover for some linehaul routes. That said, you will definitely want tanker, hazmat and doubles-triples to do LTL. There are LTL openings that hire inexperienced drivers, and others require 6 or 12 months. it really comes down to what's available in your area

Have you asked Western Express about taking a leave of absence while you travel? Then you'd have continuity of employment, and maybe you could even keep your health insurance. Some companies are OK with that as a one-time deal, but maybe not if your plan is to be gone for a few months every year or a week every few months. No harm in asking, though. When I was doing LTL we had pretty generous Paid Time Off, and the option of unpaid, if you needed it.

Other posts indicate some of the driver temp companies want 2 years of CDL experience.

You have a lot going for you, but keep a CLEAN driving record, and you just might be able to bounce around anytime you want. I believe its very possible. Good Luck
