Hello Fellow truckers and wannabes. This is my first post here so I will try and not make it too long or boring. I am the son of an old trucker and have wanted to drive a truck for as long as I can remember. My father had driven for CF for almost 40 years before they went under. He retired 6 months before they closed because of his back and he is almost totally deaf now. Well I was recently laid off from my job of 18 years and so I enrolled in a cdl school here and got them without much trouble and then I went to Werner and went out with a trainer. That experience alone almost made me forget about the whole thing. I do not like to ##### about my bad experiences and god knows that Werner probably deserves most of them but the trainer I had was a real jerk. One of the first things he says to me was that I could not keep any food in the fridge and that I would probably have to eat mostly canned stuff and he went on and on about how this was his space and that was his. Now I realize that space is limited and all that but I have the same basic human needs as anyone. The more I thought about it the madder I got and I probably should have just sucked it up and tried get past it but by the end of the run I was so mad I could have kicked a kitten through an electric fan . I helped him make the run to Louisianna but when we got back into Ohio I told him to drop me off because I did not think we were gonna get along. Well the I called Schnider and went to Carlisle for their oriantation and passed the class room stuff but I failed their company physical because my legs and hips are pretty stiff and I have some trouble with stairs but nothing that prevents me from getting in and out of a truck or using the clutch. I really liked Schnider as a company and I think I would have been happy there. It seemed so much better than Werner and now I am totally bummed. Have any of you guys or gals here worked for any companies similer to Schnider that are not as strict about the physical. Im not handicapped but I do have a few problems with my legs and back. I have always been a hard worker and have found ways to work around my limitations. God I do not want to go back to Werner.

First off....you gotta change your font. =)
And if that was the first words out of my trainer's mouth, "this is my space, that is my fridge..." i'd have told him, "this is my passenger door, see me getting out?"
Any trainer taking on a student MUST realize that if you're going to have another person on the truck, they're going to have AT MINIMUM a backpack or two for clothes and toiletries, and they MUST make room for it. If they dont, they REALLY must be a super-control freak, and i wouldn't want that.
Hey, if your career is stalled....go to swift.....they're always hiring.

That sucks, and now some Co. may look at you as being with 2 Co. in a few weeks= NOT GOOD! You can try Crete/Shaffer they have a yard in New Kingstown Pa and I think I remember them pulling trainers in for truck inspections to make sure there was room for the students stuff. Can't hurt to check and besides they pay more

Yeah I don't think I would go to swift either....Crete and schaffer might not be a bad idea for you...I don't know much about Crete but have seen here on the forum that they are looking for drivers. Good luck to you
