I am not a fan of hauling containers. I did it for a small company, and it was daunting to say the least. It's totally unstructured at times. You spend forever looking for a chassis, and you better hope it don't need repair. Then you load up to drop at the rail yard. The company I was working for, that was their model. Not sure how it is for other companies, but it soured my view on hauling cans, and then it was for so little money, like 50 bucks a load. If you can get 3 or 4 of them to the rail yard, you're OK at best. That ain't always going to happen. I think companies with their own chassis is probably the way to go for a company driver. As for the driver shortages, that is definitely a real thing. You have more freight and commerce than you ever have in this day and age. I do think shortages are bigger in some sectors of trucking than others, but the reality is, trucking ain't a sexy enough job to bring people in, and keep them, by waves. The only way for all these problems to be fixed, is for people to downsize, and stop spending so much....and we all know that ain't gonna happen.
