Most people that carry have more situational awareness than your buddy! If somebody broke into my house my alarm would go off, by the time they made it upstairs or far enough beyond the door to a place where my family would be, they would have a VERY big problem on their hands....ME!

That "weakness" is what I'm betting on. If someone has a weapon pointed in my direction intending to make me do something against my will, yet aren't ready to pull the trigger, I'm going to pull mine. And if you are not aware of your surroundings and can't size people up, I agree, a person shouldn't carry. But most people who carry concealed, I like to believe are ultra aware of their surroundings. When driving, I can tell you the last 10 cars that passed me. Makes, models and colors. Carrying just balances the tables. It doesn't always mean you're going to defend yourself against someone else with a gun. Someone may pull a knife on me. Or a dude twice my size may want to assault me. Or a group of thugs may want to do the same. All of these situations warrant lethal force.

You won't know until after The Situation if you should have a pistol or not. The Situation might be an unforseen search or an assault. The guys that just parrot "better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6" might want to consider that being fired for carrying is worse than not being fired and never needing your pistol. You will not know until after the fact.

I have never had my truck searched, even though I have been on dozens of properties that say they CAN search me/truck. But OTR means you never know where you will go tomorrow. You could be dispatched to some secure site or you could be injured in a wreck and have your belongings packed up by strangers while you recover in a hospital. As a last-chance Hail Mary, if you do carry, and you must go to a secure site, you could try to ship your pistol to your home, from the road, via FedEx ou UPS, not US Post Office. You could visit a gun shop and have them ship it legally to a gun shop back home.

Having a gun could save your life in an assault or it could turn a simple search into getting fired and or arrested, neither of which might have happened had you not had "insurance". You can't see the future.

I can see the future. It's a risk that a lot of people are willing to take. Not speaking of myself of course. I would never risk my job to carry. Practicing our Constitutional rights shouldn't involve risk but unfortunately in a nation that claims its founded on freedom (what a joke), standing up for those rights sometimes is more important then a persons job, freedom or even life. Many people have given up their lives to be free of a government whose intention is to keep their boot on our throat.
