I'm really enjoying this thread. I've been thinking about going tanker and I would prefer food-grade (not afraid of exploding or anything I just think I'd like it better). Only problem I see with Carry is the closest terminal (Decatur, unless there is one closer) is 100 miles from my house in Flora, IL. Keep up the posts!

Decatur would be the closest. You could always call and check. The guy who trained me lives 80 or 90 miles away from Decatur, so might be a possibility. I've done both and prefer chemical myself, but live too far from a Superior terminal. This is my second week with Carry and so far I'm thinking I'm going to like it. The people here for the most part are some of the nicest people I've ever encountered in a trucking company.

When the driver who was preloading my load arrived at P&G in Cincinnati, there were 3 trucks in front of him. He was able to wait for a little while, but was only able to drop the tank and had to leave. I got up at 2100 and headed down there and got my load.
Fri 6-1
I forget what time it was, but I got tired so I stopped at the TA in Hurricane, WV and took a 2 hour nap. Got up and arrived 6 hours early in Altavista, VA. They had a truck in the bay unloading, so they couldn't take me early. This worked out okay cause I was able to be there for 8 hours to match my 2 for a split break. Was originally going to drop tank at Dayton terminal Sat morning and they were going to get me something else from there. Before they went home I got a message to just come back to Decatur, IL and take the weekend off.
Sat 6-2
Shut down shortly after midnight at Pilot in Nitro, WV and took 10 break. When I got up I did a walk around. When I tried to get back into my truck my door was locked. When the door is locked and you just open it, it locks when you close it. You either have to hit the unlock button, or pull up on the door lock so this doesn't happen. I forgot. Was going to call a locksmith, then I thought about the Grand Theft Auto kits most truck stops sell. Went in and checked and they were $19.99. I figured a locksmith on a Sat would have cost more than this, so I took it to the counter and asked if I could use it and get in my truck and come back in and buy it once I got my wallet. She said yeah so that's what I did. I usually keep a hide-a-key on the truck, but haven't gotten this far yet. This still getting it all set up.
When I got back to Decatur it was still pretty light out, so I washed my truck real quick. I just did this Tue, so it was pretty much just knocking all the bugs off.

Called in this morning to see about a load. They called me back a few hours later. Leaving out tonight going to Ludlow, KY to load tomorrow, then up to Wheeling, IL for a Wed delivery.
Hope everyone had a good weekend and has a safe week out there this week. Also good luck to everyone for the next few days of harassment. -
Locked out sucks. I keep a key on my personal key set and another in the truck. A couple of years ago they had me doing local work in another drivers truck that needed to run some miles to check a repair the shop made.
I was dropping and hooking all day and was supposed to go and live load a trailer. Hopped out in front of the terminal office to grab paperwork, hit the lock button and locked myself out with the engine running. The shop didn't have another key and had to break in while I grabbed the load in my truck. Caught some good natured crap for that one. -
I used to do a little valet parking, and one of the cardinal rules of valet is that if the keys are in the car, for whatever reason, the drivers side window is down. That insures that you never lock the keys in a car. I always keep a spare truck key on me, but I still often at least crack a window on the truck if I'm outside the cab while the engine is running. And I never lock the doors with the button when I'm leaving the truck; I always use the key in the door lock. I follow the same practice with padlocks and other locks, too--I've seen more than one driver lock up his truck keys inside his trailer.
-
My habit is to pat my pocket to make sure I have my key ring before I close the door. I also always hit the lock button. That day I had my key set in my pocket there just wasn't a key to the truck on it.
-
I usually lock from the outside with the key, but door wasn't meant to be locked. I just decided to do it on its own. I forgot to get a hide-a-key made this weekend, so I have just started not even shutting the door unless the keys are in my hand.

Tue 6-5
Got to truck last night and decided to leave out at 0300 this morning. Went down to Ludlow, KY and loaded. It was molasses and thought it would take quite a while, but I was wrong. Was in and out in less than 35 minutes. Called customer to see if I could park there and they said no, so I just stayed the night at our Bridgeview terminal. Had quite a bit of time on my hands so I detailed the inside of the truck really good, cleaned out some old papers from my briefcase and over the seat organizer thing, and rearranged some stuff.
Wed 6-6
Woke up at 0430 and left for Wheeling, IL. Got there at 0530 for my 0600 appt, and the unloader guy came in 15 minutes late...go figure. Started pumping at 0630 and pulled out at 0708. Went back to Bridgeview, dropped the liquid tank. Had a very minor hydraulic leak on the pump, so I figured I'd write it up and get it fixed before is becomes even a moderate one. The side of the cabinet had residue where it had been leaking for who knows how long, but hopefully now it will be fixed.
Picked up the pneumatic that's in my avatar pic, and headed toward WY. Stopped for fuel in Walcott. Was debating if I should run hard and get there early, or take my break in Walcott and wonder around since I'm not due to load till 0800 Sat morning. Called the boss man and he said they would load me as soon as I got there, so I kept running. Shut down in Avoca, IA at the Wings America/Pilot. Had some Taco John's for dinner...I LOVE me some TJ's
Thur 6-7
Woke up at 0600 and headed out. Loving the scenery through NE. I haven't been east of Des Moines in over 3 years. Got to the Flying J in Cheyenne, WY and filled up. While I was pumping I was debating if I'd just shut down here or keep running. Got back in the truck to a ringing phone. Seems they are having production issues and can't load any trucks early as of today, so I just shut down here.
I'm only 293 miles away and don't load till 0800 Sat morning. I figure I'll sleep in tomorrow and putts on over there tomorrow afternoon. They have to quarantine you for like 8 hours either before or after you get loaded, I can't remember. If its before, than that shouldn't be a problem, I'll just take my break and load and go. If its after they load me, hopefully they will load me tomorrow night and then I can take my break while being quarantined.
As of now the plan is to deliver in Danville, IL Mon afternoon and go home. Then Wed I'll get up and head back out to WY for another load to Danville.
I can get used to a boss who runs you where you want to run. I told him when I came here I don't mind anywhere: US (with the exception of Memphis, Atlanta, and the whole state of MS) or Canada...but that I do prefer to stay west of I-35 as much as possible.
Now its time to batten down the hatches cause there are severe storms coming through here all night. I was in Denny's eating when my server informed another that a tornado had just just down 66 miles north of us on I-25. Now several hours later I'm watching something that doesn't look too hot moving right towards me. Clouds aren't even really over me yet and already my truck is rocking so much if feels likes it could flip over. Not too worried though, if its my time to go I'm gone, otherwise I'll be alright.
Hope everyone had a good day today, and good night, and a good day tomorrow.

I worked at Carry and it was my first tanker gig. Had a great trainer but didn't stay long because I found a better job with Rogers/Tankstar. Stayed a YR, then got on with Miller/MILS. I liked doing food grade, but hm seems to pay a little bit better for me anyway. My truck is polish proof and need to lock my door with a key. Lol. I read on here somewhere that a driver jumped out to water the grass one night and locked himself out in his boxers....
Sounds like your staying busy. Driver training in Duncan SCHOOL at Carry was pretty good. Nice hotel/restaurants and they run you pretty decent too. BOL with them. -
[h=1]Fri 6-8[/h]Not sure what time I got up. Went in and ate then came back out and walked a bunch of laps around the outside of the lot while talking on the phone. I felt like I was going to die being in the higher elevation. Went in and showered. Came back out and called the shipper to see about what time I could come in and not be in the way. She told me that they don't have overnight parking and that I wouldn't be able to load early cause they are still running out of product.
Started to go ahead and drive over to the Little America travel center just down the road from shipper. Was doing some planning and figured out that if I just sat there another 11 hours I'd have a 34 in, and arrive at 0700 for an 0800 appt, so this is what I did.
Sat 6-9
Woke up and drove to shipper. Even though I was the 7[SUP]th[/SUP] truck to load there this week, they still didn't really know what they were doing. They only load rail cars, not trucks. Took 2 hours to get set up before they started loading. Took about an hour and I was loaded, but still had to set there for a another 5 hours for the FDA required labs. Sat there long enough to squeeze in an 8 hour SB so I could split break it.
Left shipper and drove to Sapp Bros in Sidney, NE. Had 4 minutes left when I got there. The place was packed, and I mean the whole area. There was a little strip mall and their lot was full, along with Wal-Mart, and every other place you could squeeze a truck. I thought this wasn't going to be good since I didn't have any time left. I got lucky! There was an YRC team there that was parked on the curb. I asked them where they switching drivers or camping, and he said as soon as he did his long they were gone. I flipped around and parked there as they left.
This Sapp Bros was the nicest place I think I've ever seen. At 2300 there was a guy cleaning the restrooms. He was even on his hands and knees under the sinks cleaning the walls. I was more than impressed!!
Sun 6-10
Just drove all day. Took break at TA in Walcott, IA. Went in to eat dinner and some guy comes in and sits 2 seats down form me at the counter. I guess he thought that I cared why he was there, cause as soon as he sat down he started telling me that he was there to hook up with this girl that works at the Wendy's there. Then he proceeded to ask me how many girlfriends I had. I told him none. Then he told me I will and told me to make sure I spread them out good. Told him I was married and had 4 kids and that one woman was enough to deal with. He said that after I'm out here long enough, I will get some girls.
Apparently I'm behind. He has only been driving 8 months and has girls all over. I've been out here 8 years and have none. Darn. Guess since I'm behind I'd better just NOT start now..lol. Then he starts to tell me how he is on his 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] wife (go figure.) He was messing around with her and fell asleep. Woke up late, went in to the bathroom and took off. Forgot the girl was still in his truck till he got home and his 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] wife asked him who was the girl getting out of his truck. It was his soon to be 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] wife. Then he puts his phone in my face and says look. It's some girl's naughty bits. Said the girl at Wendy's just sent it to him. I'm thinking this guy just running his mouth till she walks in about 5 minutes later and asks if he got her pic. You look at someone differently once you've seen things you shouldn't have seen.
I quickly got up, paid, and left. That guy was piece of work. Went to shower and then to bed.
Mon 6-11Got up and headed to Danville, IL. Pulling down the dusty gravel driveway, there are signs posted on the fence to the right that says it's a high lead danger zone...don't touch anything in the fence and don't get any dust on you...too late. I doubt that chain link fence was keeping all the dust in. It looked like a war zone in there. Buildings were crumbled and everything. Later found out it was an old zinc mine, then once it was contaminated with lead, some idiot bought it and made it a fireworks factory until it blew up.
I get past it and check in at 1215. There is another Carry driver there waiting on me to unload cause my truck doesn't have a blower on it. They said they were going to lunch and they'd call us on the CB when they were ready for us.
At 1430 they called us back. Guess they had a long lunch break. We started blowing off shortly after 1500. He told me that this stuff (baking soda) unloads different with every trailer, that it would take between 2-4 hours. I got lucky and mine only took the 4 hours.
Got back to Decatur, IL about 2100 and went home.
Tue 6-12
I was off today. Going back out tomorrow heading back out to WY for another load of baking soda.
