Tazer International is the company who makes the best tazers and owns the trademark for the name 'Tazer'. This is probably the one the deputy shown you.

    You are right!!

Most of us old schoolers, who played with cars before computers, remember the days of coil packs on or muscle cars. I had an old Duster I'd built up, sitting on it was one of those big square yellow Super Coil packs. The coils were low voltage but very high amperage. If one ever got hit by one of those coils, and especially the Super Coil, it virtually took the life right out of you.

Anytime we look at stun guns, they market them by the voltage output. The amps are what is important: this is why the Super Coil was so bad on those street rod's - amps. The voltage mainly delivers those amps. The more voltage one has, the faster the amps are delivered; which is why people are typically thrown by high voltage lines. Most consumer stun guns take only one 9v battery (at best); which is not all bad, but most seem to concentrate on voltage and don't even deliver what they claim with that.

My wife has a standard issue that takes two 9 volt batteries; to deliver twice the amperage as the others. Dry fire ours against one of the others and it is extremely obvious of the difference in power.

You should really do a quick Google search (at least) before you go spouting hearsay. Tasers are perfectly legal for Joe or Jane Doe to own and use in 44 of the lower 48 (stingy New Englanders!) http://www.taser.com/legal-reference

And they cost around only $400, including 3 cartridges. You can buy them online from Cabela's. http://www.cabelas.com/product/TASER-reg-C-Gold-Kit/1265730.uts You can also get them in nice fashion prints. Grrrrrr.... baby! http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2008/01/taser-goes-leap/

Tasers are accurate out to 15ft, where an assailant's contact weapon, including a knife, cannot hurt you. Stun guns, may drop an assailant, and you have to touch them with it. Which means they can touch you with a bat, or knife, first. But, in a pinch, the Taser can also be used as a contact stun gun.

I think they are a great idea. Just don't let the bad guy take it from you. Ouch..... :biggrin_25523:
