How many times do you actually hear about a truck driver shooting someone at a truck stop/ship/rec?
Seems rare enough to not need it, imo..

Doesn't matter if it's that rare.

Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, Mall shootings and theater shootings are rare too.

A person SHOULD and does have the right to feel safe and protect themselves in whatever manner that they feel they really need to.

If that means they want to carry a gun, they should be able to. It should be a PERSONAL choice.

But with that choice comes GREAT responsibility as well.

A 5 pound dry chemical fire extinguisher does wonders for self defense.

    As Clint Smith says:
"Squirt 'em with the white foam. Then hit 'em with the red can."

That said, a GunVault NanoVault should be standard equipment in the sleeper area of every truck. Everyone needs a place to keep their emergency cash, Social Security card, and house keys when they're out on the road...

I agree. Every trucker should carry protection. Make sure you slip a condom in your back pocket before leaving home! :biggrin_25523:

Carrying a weapon that you are well trained and know how to use well is a great idea. Just because you have a CCW does not mean you know how to shoot well and could protect yourself or your load. I would also suggest that you take a class on shooting in high stress conditions. A lot of gun shops offer these. There is also a gun permit you can get that will make you legal in about 40 states. I would look into that as well. Like the others have said - in New York and Illinois unload the gun and throw it in the trailer. The best protection you can have is your brain. Don't risk your life or safety for a load that is insured.
