And yet so many will say that truckers don't need to carry protection. What good is a tire billy or hand to hand training when your opponent has a gun?

What good would a gun have done him facing three attackers?

To bad we don't live closer together. I am looking to teach a defensive handgun class in May here.

Oh, I don't know. My every day carry gun has six bullets in it. And I bet if I hit one, the other two will probably hightail it.

And there's the distinct possibility that when I pull my gun the assailants will most likely decide I'm not a victim and leave, thus saving me from having to pull the trigger.

And again, I take my training from combat vets, not on the range. No offense.

Let's just say I was a robber. I'm not going to casually come up to you and give you warning signs I'm going to rob you. I'm not going to attack you where there are witnesses everywhere. I'm going to use the element of surprise. I don't care if you have a gun strapped on you, you are not going to win. And otherwise when I wouldn't pull the trigger, if you attempt to draw I'm shooting. So you see many have a false sense of security and might even make matters worse with the attempted use of a gun.

I'll park in this remote area. I have a gun is poor planning. One's best defense is knowledge of their surroundings and avoidance. The day all states and companies say it's okay I would support it 100%. Until then one has to use their brains which does work pretty good. Walker never needed a gun, lol!

Situational awareness is even more important when carrying a gun than when not, in my opinion. I've always had reasonably good situational awareness, and that has spiked through the roof since I started carrying.

Let's take the examples here. We have a driver unloading outside a pizza shop. Three men walk up while the driver is unloading, commit a robbery, and the driver ends up dead.

Now, I'm sure all of us have unloaded a trailer at least once in our lives. Are you so focused upon your unloading work that you do not ever look up? I did, continuously. I was also always aware of what was going on around me. Its a safety concern, plain and simple. You have to be aware of everything around you when you drive, why wouldn't you be aware of what's around you the rest of the time?

People with intent to harm have a generally aggressive demeanor. If you watch their body language, you will see the hints that they are considering whether or not you are a potential victim. They either stare directly at you, or look at you while pretending not to. There's a forward, aggressive set to the shoulders as they approach. Perhaps a bit of a strut when they walk. Learn how to watch people, and you will learn to spot the ones who are a threat.

And no offense to Mr. Chuck Norris, but the day he beats a .357Mag JHP at 25 yards, I'll place my gun into a display case as obsolete.

Some good information there, I too second the notion of using a billyclub instrument, things of that nature placed right are indeed very dangerous, and indeed a good knife will definitely get the job done.
