To the best of my knowledge... They are descended from the Duke GMC truck dealership. Carter was a small company in need of financial help, so Duke took part ownership (years ago). Later, Duke bought Carter out and it grew from there. They service the automotive industry and travel a lot between Anderson, IN, Laredo, Knoxville, Dayton, and Arkansas. They have docks and terminals in those cities, and I believe they service regular customers with parts. They have runs bid on by seniority, and sort of an extra board when you first hire on. They run Volvo's with auto shift, and have a very new fleet. They will interview you after you fill out an application, and you likely have you do their physical. When I talked to them the starting pay was .315/mile, not sure how quickly it may go up, and how far. You will need to sign a contract to stay a year, or pay money when you leave. Not sure how much, but I think it was 2-3k. My impression is that they are a nice size company, and have nice lanes if you live near a terminal. If the pay was commensurate with others I've looked at, I would be there, I live 20 minutes from their Anderson terminal. I would strongly recommend you investigate and report back what you find out! The information should be fairly accurate, but do checking on your own to be sure.

The only reason u would sign a.contract or owe them money is if u went to school and then have them pay for it

Yes, but that is not what I was told while sitting in their office talking to their person in charge of recruitment. And honestly, I don't think that in itself is a very big deal. My concern is why they need to do it.

I agree. Sounds like some miscommunication going on there. I've never known Carter to be like that.
