    Day 15

Tntim pretty much summed up the day. We washed, vacuumed, and brushed the training trucks out and then set about reviewing our school paperwork. We followed that up with getting some books for orientation on Monday, as well as getting our Millis hats and shirts (for those of us who they still had shirt sizes available, anyways... Everyone else got vouchers to use at other terminals). It was a short day. I'm very much with tntim on the assessment of the instructors and the school. My only issue is that with five people in my driving group I didn't get as much road time as I would have liked... I just hope that whatever trainer I get is rather patient with me as I get my kinks worked out. Overall it was a positive experience, even in days where I screwed up.

For the sake of this thread, I'm also gonna do a synopsis of the three days of orientation next week. I might do a forum thread about my experiences with my trainer, though I know available time to do so will be limited. We'll see how everything goes.

Do we have to wear Millis gear on the job, or are the shirts just a bonus?

I think it will be explained in further detail once we're employees, but the way I understand it is that as representatives of the company, they want us in at least a Millis shirt when at a customer. I know that a couple of drivers we encountered in the break room at the terminal didn't have any Millis themed clothing on. Most of them did, but a few didn't. I'm sure that someone else who is already an employee could answer more appropriately.

    Orientation Day 1

At Greg's request, the eight of us - as well as three experienced new hires - met at the Holiday Inn at 6:45 am. We got in five cars and made our way to the occupational medicine center next to the hospital. We got there at 7, and they didn't open until 7:30; Greg wanted us to be the first in line and besides two gentlemen that got there before us we were. After some setbacks (a couple of us hadn't had enough liquid to pee out enough for the cup) we got out of there about 9:30ish. Neil waited for the last of the new hires, since in addition to the drug testing the new hires also had to get a DOT physical.

We got back to the terminal, and Greg gave the new guys a bunch of paperwork that the students had to fill out on their first day. We students went on a break while they did that. When we came back, we had to fill out tax paperwork. We rounded out the day with going over pay plans, health and life insurance, and our 401k.

    So much paperwork...

Went there in 03. had years of experience but had quit 8 years earlier so had to start over. It will suck at times but it is the best school, equipment, and pay that you can get starting out. In another month or so you'll be making the big money. Stay there at least a year or two and then you can work anywhere. Get a Sirius radio and listen to the trucking channel. Learn how to work on trucks and get your own, pull a reefer. I made $2877 after fuel last week and only work 4 days. Good luck, its not easy but worth it!

Yes, it's easier if you bring your own car, but there is a Super Wal-Mart and just about any restaurant you would want within 2 exits on the Interstate. We had a couple guys in class that didn't bring a car and they were able to use the Company Mini Van. Good Luck.. I met my trainer today, I should be leaving out with him next Monday or Tuesday. If I drop my car off in Cartersville, I'll say hi.

    Take care.

Was it only the experienced new hires that had to get the physical done? I have mine that I had to get before my permit at the end of May. I barely qualified for a two year card, and while I am addressing the issues I need to address, I want to be prepared in case I have to go again...
