It's performing so well, I haven't thought to put the Browning back up. Some guys were 2 miles behind me and a mile to my West and still were hearing them.

This antenna is about 10" shorter than the Browning, but top loaded. The top of the antenna is clearing the cab.

And I agree, inefficient on the door mirror mounts. Too low. But up high, any antenna I put up there is getting out.

I can't find the 5ft Firestik in truck stops. The Wilson 5fters are in truck stops, but I don't want too much antenna waving around on the perch putting too much stress on the bolts. The 4ft FS with 3.5" spring seems to be the perfect compromise so far.

Either that on the 68" Browning goes back up.

I bought my 5ft Firestick at the Petro in Albert Lea Mn and I have seen them at other TAs and Petros. I myself am thinking of switching to passenger side spot mirror mount and see how it works. I have already purchased a Hustler HQ27 attenna to use, the shaft is 31 inches to base of coil, coil is 6inches long and whip is 18inches for overall height of 55inches, I have been using it on driver side mount and it works really good, swr is 1.2, cant wait to try it on passenger side.

I've put the Browing back up, but switched the 10" shaft from the Wilson 5000, to raise the coil. It's a total of 5' 4", it's above the trailer using my smaller whip. We don't stop at TAs for fuel anymore after they raised fuel rates. But if I sleep at one, I'll look for the 5' FS. I'd keep that up, with my 3.5" spring. Since I run with the inverter off I should have better ears. Won't probably know until tomorrow or until I get back south or east. Up in the NW, don't here to many talkers. Not like PA, where they never shut up.

The only time I hear chatter when Im in washington State or oregon is when the Cali stations roll in on skip, not much going on in the truck stops or on the big road, dont even hear many local base stations, funny unless they are all Hammys up there or sidebanders and dont mess around on am 11 meter.

This past summer, when conditions were still consistently good, I'd always hear a LOT of stations in the northwest corner on sideband.

DA, look at the 4' Firestik. At least half the antenna is tightly wound induction coil. This is why short fiberglass antennas are inefficient.

I realize you posted that in 2014, but I live about 40 minutes' drive from where SkipShooter antennas are presently made. Want me to swing by and forward that information one of the times I go home next?

I went to Ray's in W.Memphis after posting that and he said they were making them and he would have them in about a month. I've had one now for over year or thereabouts. 7ft.......just right!
