    The mount on my mirror has a 40"shaft,ant has another 22" i think.

    Juniorj..Well swr is somewhat inportant for the radio itself..3 will kill your radio.
    1.0:1 -1.5:1 is spliting hairs above that the radio is gettin nervous...

    4 foot shaft would be ideal.

    Bandwidth should decrease and Q should increase as you lengthen the shaft. Then shorten the mount by the same amount as you lengthened the shaft to keep coil at same height

    1st..no idea what q is..
    So buy a 27" ant shaft but lower mount shaft so from mirror arm to coil is 48"??

    The Q factor is the efficiency of the antenna. It's not very efficient with that short shaft.
    If you add 10 inches to your shaft subtract 10 inches from your mount

    If the whip is longer than the shaft then it's not a very efficient antenna.
    All the antennas I build use a shaft at least as long as the whip if not longer.
    Narrow banded high Q antennas are the way to go as far as performance is concerned
