The mount on my mirror has a 40"shaft,ant has another 22" i think.
-
Juniorj..Well swr is somewhat inportant for the radio itself..3 will kill your radio.
1.0:1 -1.5:1 is spliting hairs above that the radio is gettin nervous... -
-
Longer shaft mounted lower would be better.
-
4 foot shaft would be ideal.
-
Bandwidth should decrease and Q should increase as you lengthen the shaft. Then shorten the mount by the same amount as you lengthened the shaft to keep coil at same height
-
1st..no idea what q is..
So buy a 27" ant shaft but lower mount shaft so from mirror arm to coil is 48"?? -
The Q factor is the efficiency of the antenna. It's not very efficient with that short shaft.
If you add 10 inches to your shaft subtract 10 inches from your mount -
If the whip is longer than the shaft then it's not a very efficient antenna.
All the antennas I build use a shaft at least as long as the whip if not longer.
Narrow banded high Q antennas are the way to go as far as performance is concerned
