Well the next longest shaft for my 10k comp is 27"from my 22"..where the name of god am i gonna get a strong liteweight 32" shaft...local machine shop can do it but its a solid not hollow shaft...Solid shaft that long will be hard on the mount

Hhhmmm..Am i correct in thinking your tryin to make this ant more of a top load vs a more or less mid load ant??

At least a mid load. If whip is longer than shaft it is a bottom load.

What about a short top mast..Unless that will force the increase in whip length

Shortening the whip without lengthening the shaft requires lengthening the coil which isn't really something you can do with that type of antenna and even if you could it would still decrease efficiency

Mark recommends a maximum of 18 inches for the shaft for practical purposes even though he knows it decreases the efficiency of the antenna. I recommend using the longest shaft physically possible for performance reasons even though it's very heavy and totally impractical.

Posted in the main thread and got referred here. Wife got me for father's day the mount for the mirror coax and the connections. Got it all hooked up, but the test screen on my cobra 29lx hd is saying power output fail. I did get "antenna fail" with door open but not shut. Have a Wilson 4fgt (?) Antenna that we picked up at loves. Someone mentioned the ground might not be good enough. Wouldn't the bolts for the mirror mount going into the door ground it?

The body is glued together. Glue is not an rf or DC ground. Easier to make a dipole

I understand simple electrical. But dipole is Greek to me. Is there somewhere I could see a picture or is there a term this fellow could understand? If I seen it I probably would recognize it right off but probably think of it as something else.

Here is the basic concept minus a hairpin matching coil. Notice plate with stud is electrically isolated from truck and electrically connected to tunable ground element.[IMG]

    jimjam38 Thanks this.
