Get the 24" shaft. I had a Monkey Made with a 22" shaft, and the SWR was acceptable. I got tired of it due to the triboelectric effect and thus increased static associated with aluminum, so I got a 7' Firestik to replace it, and now my SWR is quite low on 19. (And the static in my receive is drastically reduced, which is what I was going for.)

Also, counterpoise. Get it? Got it? Good.

Thats not counterpoise, thats a dipole...triboelectric effect does not apply cause you only get that from friction with another object..

If i find a place in my travels in the usa that sells a longer shaft ill try a 24 in but ill definately have to run one coil and not two..The predators have a good size corona ball for static issues..

Do you ever run to Texas? Clay's Radio Shop is in San Antonio, I-10 @ exit 582, behind the Knights Inn... can confirm they have the 24" Predator shaft in-stock.

The lower whip is a counterpoise, if you look it is shorted to the bracket in effect simulating a radial on a base antenna. Moot point the total system of antenna and ground plane equates to a dipole since without a dipole radiation cannot occur. Air molecules impacting the antenna in the wind can be seen as friction between each molecule and the Aluminum whip which it strikes. Their small size allows them to travel a distance across the whip relative to them until they pass the outer edge of the whip perpendicular to their direction of travel. In the process charge can be exchanged multiplied by trillions of air molecules. A charge builds up on the outer surface which when high enough tunnels through the extremely thin Sapphire layer all Aluminum is covered with resulting in noise in the receiver multiplied by the hundreds of millions of times every second so long as the antenna sees wind. Logically more wind per unit time means more noise. The breakdown voltage of the oxide layer is high enough in effect upwards of a microvolt or more of signal can be heard.

Volvo 244...I usually do a novascotia to the carolinas or alabama with odd trip to houston to toronto and back to novascotia....

Seems finding cb shops via other drivers is like asking a top secret question...Unless your at a truck stop or unless two guys argueing ober the radio,no one just chats any more..

He was just explaining how my little white antenna is in fact counterpoise, and how the friction with the air you're moving through can indeed cause the triboelectric effect.

Walcott CB in Walcott, IA (I-80 exit 284) and Bob's CB shop in Strattanville, PA (I-80 exit 70) have the biggest inventory selections of any shop I've been to. I can't immediately confirm if either of them have the 24" shaft, but they probably do, becuase they have literally everything. Clay's in San Antonio has it in stock for sure, I was there last week and had my eyes on it.

Other than those, most shops don't seem to have much of an inventory selection. Depending on how far into Alabama you go, you could hit Dodge City CB shop, I-65 exit 299. They seemed to have a decent selection the one time I went there.
