I gave you a formula.
AND by the way, the isolation with the truck will cause a further capacitance in many cases which will make the performance even worst. SO in some cases using an isolated electrical ground (which this is) in an unbalanced system on a vehicle which has a ground to vehicle capacitance, may not allow the rest of the vehicle to reflect the signal, but rather absorb it.

the ground antenna element is screwed onto your antenna stud. is something supposed to be keeping the stud from making contact with the antenna mount? I ask, cause I went to a bird perch on my Volvo 780 and my reception seemed to get worse. I used a Wilson mount, gumdrop stud thingy, Wilson coax, and a 4' Wilson silver antenna tuned to about 1.4 SWR

Well according to Rabbi, the element needs to be isolated from the truck but connected to the other element's ground - did I get that right rabbi?rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

That's what I said but he seems to think it is supposed to be that way. sorry if this confuses you because it surly does confuse me.

That is generally what happens.
Dipole is always my last resort option, but since Craig didn't want to have a bracket made for the rear fairings, it was the simplest 5 minute solution for someone unwilling to invest a significant effort to make a bracket that will only work on a single vehicle. -
can anybody let anything go on this forum ??? I thought this dip-pole deal was a moot point. if the friggin thing could be figured out on a truck what's the end result...or what's in it for me to bother with it.... Is Craig going to receive 10/15 miles farther ??? I need a beer and a smoke !!! or a bottle of jack and a handful of valium

If Craig had the bracket that I described to him mounted to the back of the cab I guarantee I could triple his distance if not quadruple his distance. So no it's not a moot point

Can you show us a picture?

I don't get what Craig has to do with Dipoles, I've seen a few which don't work in my time hanging from trucks.
