I don't know what type of trailer you own, but that must be some really cheap wiring. You DON'T over haul it, you maintain it. If you spend $10k to overhaul a motor, $5k to rebuild an axle you're still ahead of the game. Brakes and bearings are Preventative maintenance items. If you have a new truck or old truck they need replaced, just like head lights. "Oh, oh, you've got an old truck your head lights are going to burn out! Watch out!":biggrin_25526:

You can spend $30,000 on a $20,000 dollar truck, and you will still have a $20,000 dollar truck. Old iron is just that

I am not a truck driver only a mechanic, and I see these engines more and more. Detroit did good about making them very easy to repair certain things. The oil change on a DD15 are very easy and not very time consuming due to all filters being on top, also things like the water pump where you would pay for roughly 4-8 hours labor on other engines only takes about 30 minutes. However there are downsides also, per my company oil changes are marked up due to DD15 filters, starter replacement when it does go bad takes a while due to a lot of wireing being tucked in a small space, it is also not an engine that you want get caught in the position of running out of fuel, they are very hard to restart. Also have found out that there are times when the engine will start itself backwards, still not sure on how it happens unless the original starters polarity messes up and turns backwards, I have only seen this twice now and its not very likely to happen however is a possibility, Some parts are also hard to come by, there are two quick connect coolant hoses for the return and feed of the oil cooler to the air compressor that frequently go bad and are hard to come by. Overall from what I have seen it is a great engine just has a few issues for parts and upcharges on parts. If you purchase two things I would try and remember is to make sure that the starter isolator bolt has been changed with recall plastic nut and rubber, they did this because starter wires would ark off the steel bolt to the frame and cause fires, also I have noticed alot of costumers coming in and saying that there oil pan bolt is leaking oil, this is normally because when pan plug is reinstalled after draining oil mechanics forget to install crush ring if it falls off. Overall it should be a good truck and engine with pretty decent fuel economy, Good Luck with your purchase.

One thing everyone wants to look at when deciding between different engines is the EPA tag gives you the MM3 of fuel it takes to make the HP advertised that gives you a very good indicator of the fuel economy.
