cat 3406b hard starting

    ty ty just curious i got a friend who has an 3406b pump or two realy used and old im gonna try to acquire one of his and use it for a guinie pig to understand it better before taking mine apart

    ya i hear ya, i would do the same and like to learn n tinker but i needed mine fixed asap cause i work it every day,also my plungers only needed cleaning not replacing

    mine runs good just wont start once warms up ive talked to bunches of folks and a old guyin a pump shop told me to warm it up good till it wont start then spray cold water on the barrel and plunger section of fuel pump and cool it and fuel and if it starts the plungers are bypasssing when it warms up as fuel thins and pump warms up and lo and behold it does if ya cool the pump a bit starts right up i need plungers and barrells i think just wana take one apart n see wats in there lol

    i do logging work by myself only haul couple loads a week and have 2 trucks and can get by with it 4 a bit and wana learn bout the pumps dont like to have any thing i cant work on lol

    yes forsure, just to be clear when i say cleaned plungers i mean engine oil side of things, gear, rotation, not fuel part of pump , so seafoam deal would not of worked for me anyway ! let us know how u make out !

    i got a friend who had several trucks thru the years and has lots of parts and he let me take pump mfrom another 3406b cat and take it home and guinea pig it lol and new plungers barrels and bonnets on way let ya know how it goes good or bad lol

    gave up and had a new pump built for the 3406 b now i need injectors if i install em my self do i need to reset the jakes or can i just bolt em back down ?

    It’s best to reset them. Make sure you keep the washers marked A and B where they originally came from.

    that said I know lots of people who don’t set the Jakes when they come off, I know lots of Jakes that have a flutter or don’t sound just right too

    ty ty thats wat i figured if ya take em apart they should be reset and run the top end just wanted to ask
