So I was just looking at some new 2014 Peterbilt 389's and noticed the CAT engine was back in them??? I used to work at CAT and was assuming after they stopped they were done and not getting back into it unless they made their own over the road truck!! Super excited to see it but I can't see any literature on it anywhere on the web. Anybody else heard or seen anything? :biggrin_25519:

I thought the CAT engine doesn't meet the emission standards and that is the reasoning behind them not being in trucks anymore?

They don't... And that is why it's most likely a glider.

Would be nice to run those CATs in these newer trucks though. Cant beat an old mechanical engine. These newer trucks a simple sensor can and will shut down your truck and have you sitting on the side of the road. And as for working on them, can't do nothing without taking them to a dealer to get codes and all that stuff checked.

Plenty of cats were electronic. Hasn't been a mechanical engine made by anyone since the 3406b. They stopped making them in what? 1993?

You could still get a 3406C up until 1997 model year. But for the most part everything went electronic by 1994. Most likely you saw a glider with an "e" model cat or an early C15 single turbo.

Gentlemen,I work at Caterpillar in San Antonio, where we machine their engine blocks. We machine the C-7,C-9,C-13,C-13,C-18,and others.Caterpillar no longer has a ISO rating to produce on road engines that I am aware of.I will look into this and find out if anything changed.
The Caterpillar C660 are made by Navistar.

Those engines are same version as maxxforce 11 and 13. They stopped doing the 15 liter engine in favor of cummins isx15.
