I'm putting a 1999 C-12 back together that is getting a cam, lifters and a gear housing reseal, I'm not seeing any timing marks on the crank gear, according to the manual there is supposed to be and I see two on the idler gear, I'm assuming one for the cam and the other for the crank but there is not a corresponding mark on the crank gear. It does have the sensor plate on the crank gear with a line on it am I supposed to use that as a timing mark?

I know how to run the overhead what I’m referring to is the actual timing marks on the gears, I’m replacing the camshaft and sealing the gear housing, I’ve done the ones that have the notched tooth on the crank gear for the sensor this is the first one I’ve done with the tone ring for the sensor as there are no timing marks on the crank gear however there’s a mark on the tone wheel. I think I’ve got it though because when it’s at TDC #1 the mark on the tone wheel lines up to the idler gear and the cam timing mark lines up ok

Isn't it amazing how that "clinking" sound of ice cubes in a tumbler just gets those remaining brain cells jump.started!
Cam Roberts Thanks this. -
I guess my manual is no different then yours. Maybe someone put some aftermarket parts in your motor

Think crank gear has "x" on it if memory serves me correctly. Usually has paint mark on it also.
