Ditto what everyone else said. Great little engine with decent fuel mileage. Mine is set at 440 or 445 from thr factory if I remember correctly.. Added a diesel freak harness ( too lazy to make one myself, plus they do a nice clean job.) And on these little engines it really makes them come alive. If I had to guess about 50hp and more torque. Mine is in a dump truck also pull about 84k legal.13 speed with 3:90's. Cruise on the flats around 1450 to 1500. Fuel mileage is about 7.5 mpg, but that includes empty one way most of the time. They pull well but they are not a 15 liter Cat or Cummins, and as so you lose the torque a tad quicker.

I am thinking of buying a diesel pusher motorhome with a C12 set at 505 HP. Ex trucker always been a Cummins owner except for a couple of Cats. Motorhome I am buying only has 53000mls so I figure not broken in yet.
Would this be good for my application? -
505 is asking a lot from a 12 liter. I have one 2004 freightliner and it has 1,100,000 with no major problems but it's not 505hp. If it were me I would turn it down some for longevity. Just my personal opinion by I don't know what kind of weight you are trying to move.
fargonaz Thanks this. -
No problem in a motor home not like your lugging 80000, nothing wrong with some extra pep at a stoplight.

505 hp is a very common RV file and totally fine for that engine, it's less torque and more HP.
For tractors 430/1650 with a 27% torque rise is common. The 505 hp file is strictly for RV's and only 1550 ft. lbs and only has a 19% torque rise.
C12's were good little engines. They did have a lot of cam failures. Keep up of the oil changes and valve adjustments and that shouldn't be a problem for you.
Edit: Of course the day after I said this, one of our C12's wiped a cam lobe, so guess what I'm doing tomorrow?Last edited: Feb 28, 2017

Two incredibly stoopid questions:
1) Does the C12 have sleeves [wet or dry]?
2) Is the C12 a mechanical engine or an electronic engine?
Thanks. -
every c series cat is electronic -
every c series cat is electronic
Dadgum.
I was hoping maybe the early ones were mechanical.
JJKane is auctioning a low mileage C12 near here in a few weeks.
