Dealers have to make sure everything is set properly in the ECM to the engine serial number, and they should do a full warranty report of it. That way if it comes back for warranty they do another report and if anything is deemed out of sorts no warranty coverage will be given.

The crazy part is that I guess there’s a shortage for overhaul kits on most truck engines. I got lucky to order my kit and will be here Thursday.

That is some luck finding a kit that quick, I have 2 kits from cat waiting on me for a couple C15's I have to do, but any new ones I'm being told it could take 45-60 days, depending on what kit is needed.

Just make sure that they check liner protrusion, it is key to having a cat that will run for many miles. I always shoot for .004-.006 of protrusion, cat spec says you can go less but I don't like to.

that is absolutely crazy man. I know one guy that has been waiting 4 months just for a kit. And I know others that had no choice but to buy after market

Good like finding an injector if needed. What have you checked to confirm you need overhaul?

Checked turbo, air compressor, and had my friend that is a certified Mechanic check it as well. So everything is pointing to a piston ring. Blowing oil from dipstick, exhaust, blowby tube. Heavy white smoke from blowby and exhaust. Haven’t opened anything yet but just in case it is 100% overhaul I have the kit ready.

Not just Cat, Delphi (Now Borg Warner) in general. So that affects Cat, Paccar, Volvo/Mack, and John Deere to name a few. It is hit or miss. The C-15 10R8501 or 10R8502 or new 211-3023 211-3024 are all on back order with no ETA or known price.
