Mine engine had no other damage and the cam let go the same way at about 500,000 miles......found it doing a routine overhead.

When you guys check liner protrusions, do you just use the bolts/hold rings/nylon washers torqued to 70 or do you also use a tool to torque down pressure on the liner as well?
I ask because I just use the cat bolt setup but the one engine builder I know is telling me to put pressure on the liner like you do with the isx to get a proper measurement. -
YES the washers should be holding down the liner flange on 4 points of liners.
-
Yes torque down the spacer plater and also have the tool on the liners torqued down.

Top are the connecting rod side
Bottom is the cap side
Left to right cyl 1,2,3,4,5,6
Cyl 3 cap bearing has some bad scoring on the right side..... more like a flaking camshaft, gonna go back and inspect my crank before I go any further here.
I don't like the way these look for how little use the engine had.... 4 months work and they look beat!Oxbow, Tug Toy, SAR and 1 other person Thank this. -
You just replaced them....?
Oxbow and dustinbrock Thank this. -
Yeah, motor was rebuilt Feb 2017 but only worked like 4 months to 6 months maxOxbow, Tug Toy, SAR and 1 other person Thank this.

Who tuned it? Over aggressive timing and fueling kills rod bearings.
-
That is not the case here for sure, the truck is tuned nicely with a modest 625 crank horsepower, not like a crazy 750 or anything.... doesn't roll coal or anything. Tuned by a very reputable tuner and not one of those hack job pdi type tunes.Last edited: Jun 25, 2018
SAR and spsauerland Thank this.
