Counter bores are cut, just about to send the pistons out to get coated. The Mahle pistons I bought have Teflon coated skirts but I want to ceramic coat the bowls.

Works been insanely busy so I haven't done too much on the Pete in the last bit.

The very latest pistons from IPD and cat are DLC coated which is exceptionally hard, is ceramic coating really worth it on a DLC piston coating?

Assuming yours are DLC and not Teflon

Is it Teflon or DLC Coated? Mahle is more or less a cat piston

Is it a Mahle from interstate McBee?

The kits I buy are from FP Diesel (Federal Mogul)

I can't find the documents I had before that explained the coating and right now all I can find online is "Magnesium Phosphate"

    SAR Thanks this.

I assume it would state if it was DLC coating.

If you put them in a robo wash and the coating flakes off it not DLC..... but that’s an expensive way to find out if it’s not DLC

@dustinbrock i know this is an older thread. Just curious how it came out and what you ended up having to do to get it right?

It's funny you ask this today because I just decided to get started... finally!

I stopped the guy before he cut the counter bores, i decided to work hard through summer and save my pennies and tackle it come spring. I just called the mechanic shop and booked the tow truck for tomorrow afternoon.

I dont want it half assed, I am having the block pulled out and am sending everything down to a machine shop. Crank, block, head, pistons and rods. I have finally ruled against machining my pistons and am keeping my 18:1 as I dont like machining the bowl or trimming the tops, I also dont want to buy the cat 16:1 packs as I just spent the money on mine.... I absolutely love my 18:1 with my twins so I am keeping it this way...... she lasted over 1 million before piling up the first time.

The next couple weeks will be fun!

All I needed to do was cut the bores and reinstall everything but I'm selling off all my other trucks and keeping this one so I'm gonna do it extra nice for myself.
