Hi everyone, New member here. Excited to be a part of this forum. I'm a driver for a small start-up in Upstate NY. They purchased a 2005 Kenworth T800 on auction. It has a C15 Cat and a 10 speed Eaton Fuller. Not much is known on the history of the truck. I'm still learning the different parts of the motor. I've never driven anything with a CAT motor. I have a engine code for SPN0190-8. From what I have found, it relates to the Crankshaft timing sensor and either I have a bad sensor or a wiring issue. I think I found the sensor but would appreciate it if somebody could confirm. I found it below the power steering pump tucked into the lower part of the motor. If that is the right sensor, what is the best approach for diagnosing it? I think it's worth noting the truck runs very well even with the code in the system. Thanks everyone for your time!
Look on the block by the turbo and on top of the heads I THINK but am not positive it will be like a number like MXS21432 However that information you posted will help some of the others on here help you figure it out. For help on here the is no such thing as too much information.
Also call your local cat dealer and give them the serial number and the code you're getting. They should tell you what's they think the problem is.
Will do! Somebody has clearly been messing with the wiring on this truck, but the wires leading to this sensor (Crank sensor or not) don't appear to be touched. Are you familiar with the C15? There is a wire repair job from the ECU to a connector near the top of the valve cover and I'd like to know what that connector is for. There are two of the connectors.
The plugs up by the valve covers run your injectors, jakes, and intake valve actuation systems. As for your crank sensor code, that specific one typically indicates a wiring issue, it could be the sensor too but I've seen many times where the wires going down to the sensor get rubbed behind and just below the air compressor. By the looks of the engine sensor harness it wouldn't be a bad idea to consider replacing it.
