if i'm not mistaken the fass system eliminates the air bubbles in diesel to burn more efficiently.

Hi sandman: Is this the part you are refering too?
120 gph fuel filter head, CAT part #280-2698
I dont know where i found this part #. I paste notes all the time. Probably will never amount to anything, but i have about 15 pages of notes....:biggrin_2554:.
I look forward to seeing what everybody thinks about your question... david

It does, but it also has or puts more gph flow to the system, I think? I'll get ahold of Pullingtrucker tomorrow and point in this direction so he can tell you for sure.

I don't know of the CAT high flow transfer pump you are talking about. The only thing that comes to mind is a stock pump that has the spring shimmed (which is a easy mod someone can do on their own pump). The filter head will flow more fuel, but if you are gonna spend the money and plan on wanting more horsepower in the future you might as well do it right the first time. A Davco system is the next best after a high flow CAT head and filter assembly. The best would be a FASS or Air Dog. These systems not only remove the air (which the Davco and Cat assembly don't) but they will flow more fuel and filter even better. The FASS system I got is a 200 GPH and has saved me a lot of money just from the extra filtering it does. I did pick up a couple of tenths in MPG with the FASS. The big issue with the newer motors is fuel flow...the more the better. You haven't told us what type of motor you are putting this on so I really can't help ya much more.

After several people recommended to remove the stock F/W separator, I ordered Cat # 8H-7204 ( called a primary filter group), with shipping, cost was just under $200 IIRC. When it came in I was really hesitant to mount it because of it's compact size- about 10" from top of mount bracket to bottom of housing, filter housing is approx. 3.25" in diameter, inlet and outlet is 3/8" NPT, and looks like an old sock type unit, backing off large center bolt on top allows removal of the filter, which is a permanent screen type. This one is very popular in my area, and most of the HP freaks have the inlet & outlet enlarged to 1/2 NPT. After checking around, I found several guys running 550s with the PP box, and they claim it was an improvement over the stock setup. I was also concerned that it wasn't a F/W separator, having no petcock at the bottom, and the people I spoke to generally don't have a water problem, so the jury is still out on that question. I guess I will mount it , replacing the F/W separator. I have had water issues in the past, hope this doesn't get me in trouble.
