I was at the local Cat dealer today picking up some parts for my equipment and I was asked to speak with the truck sales manager. I talked with him awhile about the Cat dump truck we owner for about 18 months and he said they were going to be able to order trucks we a new 15L Cat motors. As we all know the current motors is the junk maxxforce motor. He said that the new 15L motor will be a Cat motor single turbo that is very close to being the same 15L engine they have in the of the loaders and other equipment they have.

I told him I would have to wait 3-4 years to see how they work out but will this be another major mess up on Cats part or are they going to come to the table with a real motor that they can really work on. My guess is this a band aid fix for they junk they have now and that in a few more years they will come out with a new engine line.

Right now Cat is getting back into the on highway vocational market. Dump trucks concrete trucks etc. Seen one in Vegas for the concrete on expo. They say nothing on the table "yet" for OTR trucks. Definitely not navistar crap. Brochure I have says HP ratings to 585 and 1850 torque. Also the engine operates in a much lower rpm range with peak HP at 1350. This was the 2014 show. So there might be some tweaks since then.

CAT sell their own truck in Australia, supposed to be based on Navistar but with the CAT C15 dual turbo ACERT engine. The truck is sold and serviced by CAT dealers. This was at a truck show a few months ago. Maybe they really are getting back into supplying the major builders like Kenworth. I know a lot of people would be very happy if they did. image.jpeg

The 15 liter loader engine is a C15 so maybe a highway engine will have SCR and DPF. The whole idea of the ACERT engine was not to use add-ons, but we all know how that worked out.
