Ugh, I WISH we had fleet pride or Truck Pro around me. All we have are overpriced dealers tho.

Thanks for all the help guys. Of course this has to happen after I just spent $7k in repairs and I also need a new fifth wheel top plate, which is $1,050. Yippie !!!

Peterbilt has Jost on sale this month....six hundred and change.

Take your old one to the scrap yard and it gets cheaper!!

Well I lucked out and found a place local to me that has a Bendix rebuilt 550 for $395. As for the fifth wheel, I have a Simplex and Holland bought them out. They finally made a plate that will bolt onto my current Simplex legs, but it's pricey. I can't just buy a Jost or Fontaine as they won't mount up. Luckily, the same place has my plate for $850. So I'm getting both asap!!

It's not hard at all to rebuild a fifth wheel. Rebuild kits are anywhere from $350-500. The hardest part is getting them clean to do the rebuild.

I wish it were that easy. Holland discontinued making the Simplex and also does not make rebuild kits for it any longer either. Trust me, rebuilding it was my original plan.

We just rebuilt one, parts were in stock at most vendors I called. Once you clean it, the recessed "SIMPLEX" on the top is the wear indicator, if it's gone, it's too thin to rebuild. If you can read it, do all the other checks and rebuild.

Mine is a Simplex Lite. Holland told me they don't offer a rebuild for it anymore. Not too sure but thanks for the info. I do know my cradle is wore out that the kingpin slides into. Mechanic told me it had too much wear????

Anyways, I'm just going to spend the $875 and get the new plate. This truck has 881K miles on it and I'm sure the new plate will last longer than the truck will LOL

Replaced mine on my C15 a few months ago with a Bendix reman from local KW dealer. $495, core charge $600, but dealer trusted me to return the core without charge. I also spent about $38 for an aluminum spacer that goes between the compressor flange and the mounting surface. If your has this spacer go ahead and get a new one as it's almost impossible to remove the one from the old compressor with out breaking it. Oh, the Bendix comes in blue; add $200 for Cat yellow and a Cat name tag. (No Joke)Both are remaned by Bendix.
