How y’all doin today fine gentlemen? I was wondering if any of y’all had or have an MXS C-15 ACERT engine with a compound turbo. Is it any good? What are the problems I might encounter? Looking at a KW with it and was tryna make sure I’m looking at a good reliable engine. Thanks!

I've never ran an acert personally but I read everything I can about them.

I think they are pretty good. Should easy go close to a million miles on a rebuild. IVAs can be problematic but easy enough to fix. Some don't like the compound turbos but I think they are great, I run a set on my non acert.

Overall no emissions crap and good life expectancy.

Has it had a rebuild with paperwork?

Very good engine. Get 50+ Pounds of boost on the one I drive.
    Rocker arms/ jake bolts,
friction plate gaskets leaking are common problems.
Ard head or Iva whatever it is another

    cke Thanks this.

They do have "emissions crap" that's the ACCERT part of it. I had an NXS in a Pete. I was told the "N" was the best one, issues with the VVA'S were delt with by then. I had no issues with them. It was a stinky engine, lots of fumes from the stink pipe at idle, enough that at a stop light I'd switch the HVAC to recirc so it didnt get in the cab... it did go thru a bit of oil constantly, and I had a dyno and blow by test done before I bought it at CAT, it came back saying it was very low, so not sure why the fumes?
CAT parts are 75% more then Detroit and 50%more than Cummins, and it was THIRSTY as far as fuel. It pulled great, lots of low grunt, no need to rev it like a detroit. Other than that it it was a great engine. Worst part was the fuel consumption. That truck never got into the 7's even hauling an mty wagon. If I was heavy it was mid 5's. Comparing it to my Detroit's I'd say they are 1.5 to 2 mpg better.

Don’t expect much for fuel out of a factory tuned acrt, a good tune will set them straight though, some guys like to slap a single turbo on but you need to drop compression and such and you are still just trying to solve a problem that really isn’t,

    stay away from the SDPs

Thankfully the ARD head is only on the SDP. The only Cat I'd avoid, the PEEC being a distant #2.

Mxs are good motors. I wouldn’t let that be a deal breaker

Why does everyone say if you single it you need to drop the compression? Air is air. Coming from compound or single turbos what is the difference? I didn't raise my compression when I put compounds on my 6nz.

    Am I missing something

I follow you. Only reason I can think of is if they run a hot tune and cram more boost in.
