Fortunately for me, I have never been not paid on a load. I have been shafted on detention time in the past, even when I submitted all paperwork on time. I won't do business with that agent any longer.

    Siinman Thanks this.

When it comes to detention, its not that different than a late fee. If the customer denies the detention request for whatever reason, then what is the broker supposed to do? Some customers require the detention request to be submitted while still at the shipper and if requested after the fact they will deny it. Some contracts start detention at 3hours, others 4 hours, and FCFS you can forget it. Best advise is to read the rate con and contract you sign with the broker you haul freight for, then be polite and ask for detention like a professional while youre waiting to load/unload.

Was even early for the delivery, and followed all their requirements on detention and they still didn't pay me. Rate con stated they pay detention and I did everything by the book. If I get cheated out of money I am done with that broker, it's as simple as that.
