Whenever I have seen them flash in illinois it has always been a head-on camera so their is a photo of the driver. Also they usually do not flash if you have entered the intersection before the red.

Lets hope that the flash was not for you!

Or maybe they are storing data for a later date to come at you with something like 37 times caught in a half red intersection! hahahahahaaa

My ex wife was kind enough to leave one of these for me that I didn't find out about until I went to renew the registration. It was about 20 months old at that time. I had to pay it before I could renew but there is and never was any record of it on my record because in this case as a previous poster said, they can not prove who is behind the wheel unless there is a face shot. The pictures I saw showed the rear of the car entering the intersection and the light already red, there was a second shot from a raised side view showing the car in the intersection and a close up of the license plate, no picture of the driver. They will send you the pictures and if there is no picture of you in the drivers seat, it could have been anyone. You should be fine, just pay it and it goes down as a civil penalty.

On a side not, they were doing this in Germany in the 80's to catch speeders. They would set up on an overpass and when a vehicle set off the laser the camera took a picture. They went for the face so it would hold up in court. There was a great picture in the paper one day of a guy wearing a pigs mask giving the old one finger salute to the Polizei. The owner denied it was him and said a lot of his friends used the car and he had know way of knowing who was driving it on that day. They couldn't fine hi so the judge made him keep a log for the next year and eery mile and minute the car was in motion had to be accounted for, who was driving, start time, end time, where they went, mileage, etc...

Unless dude was about to lose his license, I think it would have been easier to just pay the fine.
