It is not theft. It is interfering. See many states a person can use deadly force to stop a theft. That is by law. You can not use deadly force on someone using radio frequencies they are not licensed for. Just like driving a car down the highway without a license. It is not considered theft. Against the Law? Yeap, but not theft. But then millions of people drive on our roads with no license or insurance for that matter.

But what part of illegal don't you understand? It means "against the law" for which various levels of punishment CAN be assessed. Steal an Ipod, you can get punished. Get on "them funny channels" and you can get punished. Radio stations get cited and fined on a regular basis, including CBers. One group you read about regularly are "pirate broadcasters". CB ops get hit for such things as illegal equipment, amplifiers, non-certified transceivers, and refusing to allow inspection of their station because they don't know the law. You can get fined $7,000 for not allowing an inspection--and that includes your truck. Once a complaint is filed, then you are on their "radar". Continue to violate the law, after being warned, it is only a matter of time until you ARE fined.

As to the "They can't find me because I'm mobile", just remember: technology has advanced 10 fold since the days of simple triangulation and white vans. Think of all the things your computer can do. Oh yes, IF they want to, they can lock onto your truck from Columbia, MD, then send a nondescript mobile out to birddog you. They can be on your ##### and you won't know. It could be a Crown Vic or a Chevy Tahoe with NO visible antennas. The equipment is built right into the dash by a custom builder and it LOOKS factory. Not ONE antenna showing! :biggrin_2556: How do I know? I got to do a ride-along with an agent one time and the equipment they have is just amazing. From our initial arrival in the 'target' area, the agent locked onto a vehicle using an unauthorized VHF transceiver. Then we proceeded to intercept the car-all within a half hour. Even many hams, while not possessed of such sophistocated equipment have some basic things built right into their transceivers that CB radios don't. These things, such as "attenuation" (which helps to isolate which station is doing the interfering) and types of "band scopes" and sweeps---all allow many hams to quietly observe a truck yapping on 28.085AM, then turn his findings over to FCC. Some of the truckers "caught" themselves:biggrin_2559: by transmitting to the "mobile with the big, funny antenna"! :biggrin_2559: By so doing, and revealing his identity, he just incriminated himself! Electronics is sooooo much fun!

Here's a fella who's in trouble NOW over his radio antics!

ENFORCEMENT: UNLICENSED OPERATOR ARRESTED FOR THREATS AGAINST
    TEXAS RADIO CLUB

A man arrested on allegations he used amateur radio to
threaten to kill members of a local amateur radio club has been released on bail
from the Bexar County Texas Jail.

Twenty-nine year old John David Watkins
III, posted a $4,000 bond and was freed before noon Sunday February 17th. This
after his having been taken into custody the previous night on two counts of
    making terroristic threats.

An arrest affidavit states Watkins, known on
radio frequencies as “White Noise,” was creating interference and illegally
transmitting without having the required radio operator license. A member of a
radio club met with Watkins in January and told him to stop or the group would
report him to the Federal Communications Commission.

    Officials said that
the next day Watkins allegedly made threats against the person who visited him
and against other members of the club, saying he would kill them with an AK-47
rifle. These threats were reported to the police who provided security at the
    club's next meeting..................................................

My question to you Gadfly, since you feel the way you do, is why do you hang out here with all us "criminals"???:biggrin_2559:

As far your little story goes, it doesn't really apply. That guy committed a crime, a felony no less. However, it should be a lesson to you as well. What I took from the story was a ham taking matters into his own hands without any authority. Obviously he didn't intimidate or scare the idiot who then committed the crime of terroristic threatening. The moral of the story is: don't play "police" unless you have the authority to back it up! I don't see how your story applies to somebody transmitting a few frequencies out of the authorized CB band!

Gadfly, give it a rest. You keep saying the same crap over and over.. Might be different wording, but it's the same message.

You have your view, which has been stated. They have their views. You'll never change them, they'll never change you.

Your continued preaching is accomplishing nothing other than proving the "old stick up the ### ham" view most CB operators have of us.

It has been said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.. You went past that a bunch of posts ago.

But he means well and what he says is mostly true. And no doubt the guy in the story is probably one of those everybody would like to shut up or tone down. But most of us who slide out of the band now and again don't bother anybody or step on anybodies toes and don't care what the Hams think and as you said " we will never change." That's CB, like it or not!

From past experience as a CATV technician I can tell you getting the FCC to do anything is next to impossible. Trust me. You need to be related to get ANY kinda action. We had guys broadcasting with so much power, using #### equipment and wiring there signals would leak out and knock modems, set tops and EMTAs offline. No one from the FCC did squat about it for years.

What kills me is all the "hams" and "professional operators" that come into the 11 meter freqs and talk smack 24/7 but if you journey into there spectrum there gonna tell on you.

So we should continue to affirm the stereotypes? I live right off I90/39 here in Illinois, I keep a pretty close eye on 10m due to all the truck traffic and have never heard anyone there that isn't supposed to be. Does it happen, I'm sure it does, and if it became a problem, you can bet I'd be dusting off my RDF gear and do my best to find the offender.

Should I allow that to taint my views of ALL CB operators due to the few that break the rules? Nope..

Should I be painted as a "Stick up the ### ham" just because I hold a license? Nope

We all know what the rules, and repercussions are. We don't need 500 examples waved in front of our face about it.

I operate both ham and CB and enjoy both. And there's just as many people I can't stand to listen to on Ham as there is on CB..

Unfortunately, some hams give all hams a bad name. 11 meters is a free for all. The so-called hams coming to 11 to taunt you are probably the same ones you'd hear causing problems in their own turf on 14.275/14.313 MHz. Heck there's Canadian hams on those frequencies that talk major #### about the U.S. and Obama. Wouldn't surprise me if they were the same ones you were hearing on 11 m.

Yeap, I have heard hams coin on the 11 meter frequencies and crank it up to a 1000 or so watts and play all day long thinking they can do anything they want, including running illegal power on 11, just because they hold a piece of paper.
