Ok
So in here there is alot of people repeating bs and some who know their stuff but get to techy with their explanations an lose most of use who have not been at it for yrs..
Anyone know of a cb ant for dummys type book that anyone can understand...Drives me nuts that almost everything is ham related and doesnt really apply to the average cber..Yes i know we all have to use the same theory but the techy words and totally different situations need different solutions..
At 1st it was set the swr and life was good..Then it was better when you had echo boards and swing kits and so on but everyone is focused on the radio and adding power..
I went out and bought the arrl bible, useless to me..I need a collage degree to understand the book..I got two different analyzers and good lord its help but forced me to learn stuff and that in itself created the above problems..
The more you know the more problems you find then its back to the books till you learn more...
How bout a dumbed down version of the arrl bible kinda book..
Sorry this kinda went in a bit of a rant direction..
Options, thoughts ect in ideas of such a already published book from a noted/ respected source??

Just do a google search on basic cb antenna theory. The tech stuff is the same regardless of the frequency. What is it that you want to know?

Just throw on a Francis and "Forget about it ".......
Powder Joints and AvalonLimos Thank this. -
SWR means "standing wave ratio". An antenna has to be a certain electrical length to resonate (fancy word that means to be the most efficient) on any particular frequency. If the antenna is too long or short, some of the radiated power is reflected back into the radio as heat. An SWR meter measures this ratio of forward power to reflected power. As long as you are around 1.5 to 1 ratio, you are fine. Any more reflected power, then you run the risk of burning up parts in the radio.

Well delta..
Im fustraited with this cascadia..Although im tored of tryin and the advice i get is great but most of it i cant apply to a company truck..
I have a lil to much thrown into it as is only to find out i have made zero progress....Just when think i get a handle on one thing, another pops up..
Just as a base line..It started with setting swr and all is good..NOPE..Then i learn there is impedence, resistance, resonance, counterpoise and so on..Its like makeing a cake from stratch..Ya need 15 things to make one thing work..
Just need some reading material that covers alot of stuff but broken down some without all the terabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Im not a total newbie so i do understand some of it but i have learned enough now that i see more issues..Putting on a mirror ant mount with a 40" shaft and then my predator with a 22" shaft and tuning is just not enough..Im seeing capacitance and inductance #'s and im not sure where they need to be..Noo range with this truck like many others..
Love to have a referral book to browse through every so often without all the tech terms.. -

Those lil wimpy antenna are useless..If i got finreglass ant its a skip shooter or fire stick atleast 6' long..Not enough metal in the new truck for signal to bounce off of for counterpoise..
-
He has thrown a few odeas at me but im kinda limited to what i can do..Company truck..
Problem is i cant ask him at 4am if im up haven a beer or a pee..I want hands on material to study without all the tech terms..Hence cb antenna for dummys.. -
One of these days i might just take bits and pieces from a zillion sources and make a pdf file and post it here for everyone...That could be yrs to do and if im still alive to do it..
