if your going to run that beast marks going to build for you look at the power cable Walcott sells it has Anderson quick disconnects which I run on all my radios and it's 4 gauge welding cable. it has a inline fuse on it. I run it straight down to the batteries.the battery it runs off is grounded too with the good ole 4gauge wire from wally mart. the 0/1 I run my amp off is grounded also 4 gauge wire again

if you don't put a ground strap/wire on the batteries down below you get all the light flashing/dimming on your gauges. and a lot of times your gauges going ape ####. .. I've got none of that....

But as I was reading all of the posts, I had a thought about an antenna and looked around in my collection. I really was looking for a bottom loaded whip for an idea, but that doesn't matter.

There are a couple things I will be trying in the near future on one of my newly acquired junk trucks, 2012 cascadia. It won't be in the fleet for long, I have a buyer for it but he won't move on it till March of next year, he's got it tied up with an option to buy.

But anywho ...

One thing that I haven't really did and should have is measure the length of the antenna from a mount to the top on some of these repair jobs I've done.

The talk about extensions and such makes me wonder if there is a better way to add to the rf ground and remove any non-resonance conductors (which was one issue in the setups). The extensions maybe adding to the problem and when I modeled them, I ignored the extension when I should have added them in so they didn't show up.

My question are;

how long is it from the mount to the top of the antenna for your setup?

And how far from the ground to your mount?

Would a 7 foot antenna be acceptable to any of you?

I've got the same 40" mount as Craig and with a 9" shaft on my antenna it's 62" on the antenna itself.. that comes up to 102" mount and antenna together... I could not run a 7ft. antenna but I can run a 5 footer.... I'm on it and going to try it out..........thanks

well you certainly rarely if ever see someone running the never ready deal at all. the end result is all that matters does the radio receive or put out audio wise 5/10/15/20 miles better....seems like a bunch of fluff to me.....

It actually changes the angle of radiation quite a bit

that's why I don't run my amp all the time I'm not looking to glow in the dark...my personality does that for me.....el loco

Ill never see the diff in 240 vs 400 lmr stuff..Not running enough power..My stryker is only around 60ish watts..

Yeap i did....I used the stuff i stripped from a coax..Made one continous run of it from top door hinge to top cab hinge to bottom door hinge to bottom cab hinge..Tried seperate sections to and didnt seem to make a diff..Maybe its a tuned ear or somethin i dont have knowledge enough to see/understand..
