CB Antenna help for an old Cobra CB?

Hi newbie here just joined the forum. Dug up my old cobra CB and old rubber duck antenna from 1982. I would like to test this unit to see if it rec. and transmits but iam missing the small rubber antenna that screws onto the magnetic base, my question is can i temp attach a copper wire or something to this to test my CB thanks for any help

 

Thanks for the reply. School me on the 108" if i remember the part iam missing was about 2-3 ft tall? I dont plan on driving around to test this just in my driveway parked to see if this unit works before i order a new antenna or ( both) Thanks again
