I need this to run my VHF?

The only time someone checks your VHF is during blitz week, and then only if a CRTC goon is hanging out at a scale. They have the jurisdiction, not the DOT.

I have a Kenwood, 65 watts and totally unlocked, self programmable too. I also use a high gain wide band antenna, and that adds some wattage too. I just make sure I can't send on all the other channels. But it's good to hear if there are any plows working a hill in BC, and sometimes I can listen in to the rainbows. I will warn someone when I'm talking to them, that they'll hear me long after I can't hear them. My mic has a lighted keypad, so I just turn my radio off when I go through a scale at night. Just don't need a curious DOT pulling me in.

 

I probably have the same radio... a couple of them, in fact.

 

I put one in my pickup too, along with the same antenna. Gotta chatter when commuting lol.

As Wildkat stated the big radio is far more useful in Canada, we do use LADD 1,2,3,4 here though, different areas change at any time so you may have to bounce them to catch someone talking.

 

In my area of BC basically nobody uses a cb radio. We have 2 way radios, and are sometimes on Lad 1 or 2, but the cb died up here about 40 years ago.

 

Mine puts out 65 watts in my pickup. Yours might be 3 watts max.
