I have the 29 LTD BT, so far I enjoy it (although I wish it had nightwatch at times, but I can manage without it). It definitely looks coool!
I turned up the modulation myself and set my SWR and it does alright with just my factory antennas. I enjoy it, although I turn it off when I get to truck stops as the garbage the pours out of it is simply ridiculous sometimes.Last edited: Mar 11, 2009

you are just starting out you dont need to jump in the water with both feet and grab all that you can .. here is what you can do ...
get a half decent radio... cobra 29 classic ... get a half decent mic with it and a good antenna ( antennas will range in price, wilson is pretty good and cheaper ) no magnetic ones. for now take what the truck comes with ... have the swr's checked .. make sure its grounded...
dont jump into the higher price cb's... cobra 29 will do just fine ... if you have a few extra dollars, some places with charge you 30 to 40 to peak it a little.. if yuo are on i-80 in pennsylvania exit 70 is bobs cb shop.. he does all the work on mine...

Not sure, but I think there is a Cobra 29 WX (one with weather band).

25watts used to be possible. I had a 23 channel Johnson with a D104 power mic, it put out 25 watts barefoot, 125 watts with a 100 watt linear, on a Shakespear lightining rod antenna. I could talk from Florida to Texas on a good night of skip. As for the Shakespear lightining rod, it was just that, and took a strike in a storm one night. It burned the paint off the steel shelf the linear sat on. Funny thing is the linear still worked. Blew the antenna apart.
The Cobra 29 does come with weather band, I have one. Purchased from Flying Hook online. -
thats funny as hell i remember my dad tellin me about when that happend to a friend of his years ago... must of been quite the sight -

I have run a Tandy (Radio Shack) cb for the last 4 years. I also use the same brand of anntenas. It has the weather band on it which has come in pretty handy. Never had problems with it and did the whole set up for around $85. I don't think they are doing much with cb's anymore though. Ok you can start laughing now.

The best thing you can do to "get out better" is to tune you antenna for channel 19 as close to 1.1 as you can get it. It takes a long time and the closer you get the less you need to move it to get a difference. One of the best radios I have ever had was a very old radio shack. When I brought it to the shop the guy told me it had one of the best Cobra insides they ever made. I guess I got lucky. Peeking and tuning is important too, but tuning your antenna is one of the best, easiest, and cheapest ways to make it as good as it can be.
