    True story.

Myself and 4 other drivers were running down trans canada 1 heading towards Carbury Manitoba. One of our drivers was running a 3300 connex with the echo turned up. We all talked and listened to him as we had him turn the echo down slightly. When we finally told him he was sounding great, he came back with "I have it turned off now?"

That "Auditorium" sound is not the best on the air.

Listen to your favorite band or singer on a CD that was recorded in an Auditorium Then listen to the same that was recorded in a studio. Which sounds better? I will pick the studio recording everytime as it is crisp and clean. That is the difference between running a slight touch of eco and not running it at all.

    IMO
If you turn on your echo/reverb and can hear it in "your" talk back
    your over running it.
I'm never asked to repeat something I said, its heard clearly the first time I say it.
I run my reverb just a hair past the echo which is a hair past the "click" when its turned on.

I prefer the true Connex style boards,I have never liked the turbo boards at all.
The few radios I have that came with that board from the factory have been replaced with the true Connex type.

Actually, that's only half the problem.

The other half of the problem is located on the receiving end.

Many people who complain about the echo effect, are the same people who complain about "How sh#### your radio sounds "

When the actual problem is, they're too cheap to buy a quality speaker.

They'll spend 100's for their stereo system speakers. And feel completely justified listening to your POS echo, on a 75 cent speaker.

    HMMMMM............

So many opinions, so little time.

I'll admit, Ive heard some people talk with a slight hint of echo and even I can understand them.

But, there have been those that I cant understand them at all even if they key up 20 feet from me.

As far as my speaker goes, I have a descent one, I spose. It cost a helluva lot more that 75cents....

I am running a speaker setup I built myself. It is mounted in the overhead of my Pete and sounds just as good if not better then the stereo. I have yet to find anyone sound good with any amount of eco/reverb period.

Eco/reverb is useless in my opinion. I wish the radio manufacturers would do away with it all together.

The only good it does is for the CB rambos that are trying to clutter up the channel and lock it down so no one else can use it.

its amazing that the general concensus of this thread dont like the echo yet there are so many that use it when I power my radio on. Granted, i dont use mine very much cause of all the nonsense chatter that goes on. Since I drive mainly at night, I like havin it on for updates on weather and if there is an accident ahead. I could care less about black and whites unless Im in a state were trucks can only go 55 since im governed at 62.....

Echo is a cheap imitation of something I call a "DX sound". DX means long distance (intercontinental) in amateur radio. Sometimes you´ll have condidtions, where the radio signal gets reflected in different ways (or you might receive the signal on the short path directly and at thne same time over the long path around the back of earth) and it reaches your antenna twice, with a millisecond time difference. This causes a natural echo.
