THE ONLY THING i HAVE SEEN THAT MAKES AUDIO SOUND BETTER IS A SMALL AMOUNT OF PROCESSING. And that can be overdone too.... THIS is what the EXPORTS should come with.

A good RF Processer ( not just audio ) for audio on SSB is a killer way to sound LOUD but NOT cheap. It is only found in $5K and up radios.

REVERB / ECHO Are not found on most ham radios because they just don't work 99% of the time. Myself I'll talk to someone with reverb I have heard it all ..... YES I talk to licensed HAMS running EXPORTS and some sound just fine with echo.

TEN-TEC makes one AUDIO Processer that is good I had one with my FT-620 its a kit you put it in a box between the mike and radio. There are others some built into the mike ....

Some of the best sounding stations I have ever heard are running their radios threw sound boards and sound processors.
And don't let the resident Hamy's BS you, their are many many guy's out there using them set up like that on the ham bands. They sound just as if you are listening to a FM radio station.

Now me I'm just a poor hard working trucker. I can't afford to spend thousands of dollars on that kind of set up for my truck.
But what I have done is spend a lot of time, which is something we have plenty of going down the road. Adjusting mine to come as close as I can to that sound. I am using a Galaxy 98VHP and the talk back on it comes right from the out going signal. So on it what you hear is what you actually sound like on the air. If used properly echo will help the sound of your radio. I get complements all the time. So I must be doing something right.

But like most of the rest of you I hate the fools in the 55 gal drum.
I like to ask them if they like the sound of mine. When they say oh yea it sounds great, I tell them well you don't sound nothing like it some let me help them get it sounding right some don't. ether way I don't really care. As long as mine is right.

I heard some guy using echo, and like you said, it was set right. It was pretty impressive, and not obnoxious at all, and it was a great change of pace. It's probably better for 10 meter radios. I wouldn't use it on my CB radio. But if it's set right, I think it stabilizes the users voice and can actually make for easier comprehension, due to longer voice tones that would enhance someones speech who has, a differnt "accent" to what you are use to hearing. And we all know that people talk different, from different parts of the country, or even the world.

If I have the radio on, and someone broadcasts with an echo, I ignore it.

Just my OPINION. A slight bit of echo helps me understand "SOME" drivers. Any more than a little is annoying, and that roger beep ought to be killed along with roger.

To each as own I spose but I really have no problems understanding someone when they speak in a clear, intelligible voice with no "enhancments unless they are out of range.

    1st What is a hammy ?

I have NEVER heard Echo used on the ham bands EVEN on 75 meters. Processers YES and many HAM radios have them built in. ECHO in the real world degrads audio and this is why you don't see it built into HAM radios if it worked it would be right next to the processer switch .....
