all of those use the same microphone element and switch. The one in the picture is only a couple years old. Depending on which model you buy will determine what wiring needs to be done inside. All of the 602 series is noise cancelling and the element is 150 ohms. The 602 T series has an amplifier board inside which needs to be removed in order to use it with a CB. The 602 FH has an impedance transformer which needs to be removed in order to use it with a modern cb. All of them require the plug to be changed to use it with a modern cb.

Reason for edit: clarification -
To make that mic work on a cb (Pluto galaxy), you still say you have to gut it out, so when it said and done, how comparable is it then to a SRA 198 ?
-
I've never used one of those Chinese microphones so I can't really make a comparison. Although I can say the quality control is not very good on the Chinese microphones and sometimes you will get a good one that sounds great but you cannot be guaranteed consistent results every time with the Chinese stuff. The American stuff is made to much higher standards and the quality control is very consistent and each one sounds identical. It's kind of the same with speakers. The more money you spend on speakers for your car stereo system generally the better fidelity you will get by spending more money on speakers and the same goes for microphones.

$348.59 for that mic on amazon ? Plus you have to gut it out ? I did notice it was manufactured by Telex, didn't Barjunk buy them out or did they only buy out the RK 56 ? Also it says its a power mic, why not go with the Telex 76 ? I have not seen a 76 in many years. I had one about 30 years ago and didn't like the 76. The only reason I bought the 76 was because they didn't have the 56 in stock.

You can spend $20 on one of those microphones on eBay if you look hard enough. Barjan bought out the Turner division of telex which is owned by Bosch.
All the aviation and government stuff is made to very high quality control standards here in the United States. Quality brand new does not generally come cheap unless you find it usedDiesel Dave Thanks this. -
I'm always a sucker when it comes to anything that improves performance on anything long as I can get a deal. So in your expertize, what model of mic would I be looking for on my Galaxy Pluto (4 prong) ? Once I know what will work, I will do my research and see where I can find one for decent price. I must say also, I'm not a constant radio user, so paying high dollar for a mic might be also out of my league. BTW, I did pick up my SRA 198 for $20.00 on Amazon over a year ago, and I still have my original Telex 56 I had over 30 years.

Astatic echo max 2000 was one of the best microphones ever made for a base station. To find one brand new in the box would cost a small fortune, but for mobile use all I ever use are the Electro-Voice aircraft microphones.

Found several on eBay for around $40.00. One that caught my attention was the 602F and had the 4 prong set up. Is is legit ?

That's the same one I use
Diesel Dave Thanks this.
