    i really appreciate all your help... I have ordered the mod kit as u advised with the mosfet erf520.. I will retry... If not its a one hour drive to nearest cb shop in east brunswick nj... 38.00 for opening radio plus parts,.....I did plug it in truck at work today.. no audio ouput but i can receive audio so we shall see...

    Thanks for the reply, I saw the complete conversion a while ago (schematic and so on), it amazes me that the original transistor is no longer available and it is being replaced with a $2 part.

    As for performance, well there are ways to get more out of it.

    Modding radios should be banned here. It's not legal, just like modding emission trucks.

    The original transistor IS discontinued but there is a direct replacement being made... The number escapes me at the moment. It is a true drop in replacement for the original that will get you 4-5 watts out. I have not heard anything about the durability/quality of these parts.
