High Gear, I've had the same problem in my 1996 Mack day cab. When it rains, my radio is as quiet as a church mouse. I've checked the power ground and the antenna ground, all is good. I've ran a ground directly to the battery with no success. I even placed a battery on the passenger side floorboard to hook my cobra 29 nightwatch directly to but got the same results. I've put on a new mount, stud, wilson 2000, new antenna ground from the mount to the frame, and tuned in to 1.4:1 SWR but I still get this excessive noise when I get up past 30 MPH. The noise registers about 3 to 4 on the built in signal meter, so when I tune it out by turning the squelch up past halfway, I can't hear much further than a half mile at best.

Does it do it sitting still when you rev the engine? That earlier thought about steel tire belts on page one comes to mind, but it sounds to me like you still have some sort of ground problem. Unconnecting the antenna, and the process of elimination one item at a time may show the problem. As bad as it is, it shouldn't be hard to find.

It works fine when the truck is stopped or moving slowly. I do not have a problem with engine noise or electrical devices. I've been told about the possibility of the static charge build-up from the tires. That seems like a truckers tale to me, but, I'm beginning to think it's true. I'm due for new tires in the very near future. I'll report on any changes if they happen.
