forget the factory wiring. Mount a antenna on a perch mount on the top mirror screw. That is the only place it is grounded. Use that hole for the perch then run 18ft of coax and you should be ok. You don't need a expensive antenna but one that you can get as far from the truck as possible which on a volvo will be at a angle. The longer with a shorter shaft the better.

The OEM Volvo antennas work fine but you may have a bad coax. Do you get radio reception?

Based upon the OP's post, he hears nothing in RX. If you've got an external speaker, or even an old mono earphone, plug it into the "External speaker" jack and see if that allows you to hear any noise. If your radio has an RF Gain control, turn that all the way clockwise. Make sure the squelch knob hasn't been turned up enough to be blocking any signal at all from getting through to you.
Also, a common "problem" is if your radio has a "CB -- PA" switch, make sure it's firmly in the CB position. And that one's common enough that I do it myself sometimes.
As you can tell from the responses before, there's a huge difference between hearing stations weakly and your radio not having a working receive circuit. If the external speaker or earphone lets you hear stuff, either your built-in loudspeaker is shot, or the external speaker jack is damaged.
Please let us know what you find. Happy hunting.
