I am in the same boat as you. I took the Cobra 19 out of my Jeep and put it in my Peterbilt all prewired with power and a antenna. My attenna can not get a good ground. Might have to run a wire direct from the negative off the battery. Still working on it. The radio is good. Just because its cheap compared to others it still works good. I found a receive boost on a search on YouTube. Keep in touch to see how it works, I'm going to try it later after I buy some stuff from radio shack

Its a Cascadia. Tried radio check several times yesterday without luck. It sounds like more of an Antenna issue.
So, I found what seemed a solution. A magnetized roof mount that I can easily remove if against co. Policy. But the install directions say to run the cable through the window. What about when it's raining?

Run the coax between the door, and the cab. The door seal will still be OK, should be no problem.

There is a bracket made and sold for the cascadia specifically. It is designed so you take the to forward bolts out of the mirror bracket, then slide the mount into place and re torque the 2 longer provided bolts back into place. Then you can buy any standard 2 piece antena/mirror bracket to mount there. Run your coax right there by the hinge and instal an antenna. It's a simple system I myself have used previously.

Cool. Thx all for the help. I was able to communicate with a chemical plant shack this morning so the CB isn't completely worthless. That's mainly why I bought it. Still seems weak. I'll try the Antenna upgrade.

still not sure what the extra bells and whistles are for on the more expensive CB's. I've read they are regulated and have the same limited power.? Anyways I'd have to wait. It's not like I've got money falling out of my pockets.

As for running coax from the antenna, through the window and up to the radio; leave a little slack outside the window so that the coax looks kinda like a backwards letter "J". The rain water will go to the lowest point rather than where the coax enters the window. Since water does not flow uphill it will not run into the cab of the truck.
    .
.Please check your setup with an external SWR meter so that you know what is your starting point . If you believe that your coax is defective, replace each of your antennas with a dummy load and check your SWR with an external SWR meter.
    .
.With the newer trucks, the trucks are notorious for poor antenna ground planes. Search for "bonding" in this CB radio forum. It has been covered fairly extensively.

NO! Don't use a magnet mount, more than likely it will come off. If I'm not mistaken the Cascadia has the antenna mounts on the upper part of sleeper? Too much to get good coax up to factory antenna mounts. You may also want to add a ground wire to antenna mount if running new coax isn't an option that may help as well. I have seen aftermarket market mirror mounts for Cascadias/Pete 387's that bolt onto the mirror arm somehow. I believe I saw it on ebay. I have also seen drivers mount their antennas on the grab bar on back of truck and route a nice long coax cable to it, lots of places to run the cable without cutting holes everywhere or running coax thru a window.

I have a different sort of problem. My cb gives me static feedback every time my truck shifts. It's a 05 freightliner Columbia with the smart shift. Could it be a ground problem? If so how do I go about grounding it properly?
