Ok, installed my new radio today, same locations antennas grounding as my first setup. Now I was finally able to get my swr on track. My issue on the high swr was 100% the old radio.

As for engine noise it's still there but I found somewhere else that the 7.3l makes a lot of rfi. I'll need to do some bonding sounds like a lot of bonding...
My antenna mounts where bonded to the cab hinge area to keep them shorter.
    Here's what I've dug up
    "
The problem with a PSD is the injectors. It is NOT NOT NOT the fuel pump and other things!!!!

The ring-back (or back-pulse) voltage of the injection control solenoids (one on each cylinder) when voltage is removed measures over 1000 volts, and that is the ticking that sounds like spark plug noise you hear in PSD trucks.

It is virtually impossible to cure completely, but what helps most is:

Grounding the cables shields at each injector (there is foil inside the injector harness)

Grounding the engine block at multiple points, especially to the driver side fender well where the injector control computer is mounted.
    Grounding the transmission housing
    Grounding the tailpipe.
Grounding the cab of the truck to the frame at every corner of the cab (it is on rubber mounts)
    Grounding the hood better
Mounting the antenna behind the cab on the bed of the truck.

I had almost no success at all with ferrite beads. Grounding offered over 20-30dB improvement.

Cause every engine can have different rfi as parts get replaced even mid year changes. I've heard someone can use a am radio to find rfi but not specifically rfi on the cb band. Does anyone know of a way to find cb specific rfi. Maybe it can save me a few hours of bonding and chokeing everything thats talking

Could you use a handheld CB to find rfi?

Mfj has a tool to find stray rfi....Bonding does wonders but just wondering where your ferrites were placed and if you look up rf choke..

I haven't solved my rfi yet, I'll need to order some braded rfi straps, I don't know of a local source. I might order some ferrites too.. I was just sharing what I dug up on the rfi commingled from a 01 Ford f250 7.3....
The same engine is used in ambulances so you figure Ford would have solved there own rfi issues, I guys they saved a few bucks

I know the 7.3 with the ambulance package has at least one more braided ground strap going engine block to frame, but that might just be only for the dual alternator setup to handle higher amps. Ford definitely has a design flaw here, plus with same engine I've heard a few people having their truck stall out or turn off with a specific aftermarket CPS when exposed to radio towers or upgraded cb radios. One guys truck would shut off if he keyed the mic.
Well thanks for the information everyone when I tweak it right I'll have to share

Funny about the radio making a difference with the SWR, unless they're using built-in meters that are somewhat off. The SWR is a value showing how well the antenna and the coax handle the signal without reflecting it back to the transmitter. Usually high SWR will indicate a poor match between the antenna, the coax and the ground plane, with the radio only producing the signal. How does the radio affect SWR? Learned something new today.

As I noted before, my '96 F250 7.3 Powerstroke produces no noise to my radio. They probably made some change in later years to get it to do so. Figures.

Radio doesn't effect SWR. Has nothing at all to do with SWR.

    slim6596 Thanks this.
